About DTMB:

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) (https://youtu.be/H_IrVnVjcoA) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.

About the position:

Position serves as the engineering specialist with statewide responsibility for System Performance for Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS). Position is responsible for research, analysis, and implementation of settings, configuration, and functionality that impacts system performance. Position is responsible for development of studies and methods to monitor and analyze system performance. Position is responsible for developing and maintaining procedures and guidelines related to FCC Part 90 Licensing for the radio system. Position oversees the work of radio technicians on a project basis. Position provides support and tracks documentation and acceptance testing of equipment for communication system projects. Position participates in review of project designs and new equipment. Position organizes and tracks statewide RF and microwave systems, troubleshoots system and equipment problems, and coordinates work with radio frequency and microwave technology. Position maintains familiarity with alarm and control systems, trunked radio systems, RF propagation link and coverage analysis, radio traffic analysis and management techniques, voice and data standards, digital transport technology, network security, LANS/WANs, fiber optics, FCC Parts 90 and 101 rules and regulations, and the FCC licensing process.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Experience

Four years of professional experience equivalent to an Engineer, including two years equivalent to an Engineer P11 or one year equivalent to an Engineer 12.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
