Job Description

This position serves as a staff accountant for statewide accounting systems, prepares reports and the monthly and year-end book closing processes. In addition, the accountant provides assistance in analyzing accounting problems, using knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), theories and their practical application.

Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

One year of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant 9 or Auditor 9.

Accountant P11

Two years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant 10, Auditor 10, or Assistant Auditor General 10.

Accountant 12

Three years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Accountant 9 - 12

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.

OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant experience.

This position has a FTIFNPRINT sub-class code. The sub-class code indicates the position has access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and requires passing of a fingerprint-based background check per IRS Publication 1075.

Some jobs may require that the employee possess a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA).

This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michiganprior to your appointmentto perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
