AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. We are seeking an Opto-Mechanical Tech 2 to support our production operations in Devens, MA.

Overview

Reporting to the Production Manager of Precision Devices, the Opto-Mechanical Technician 2 will be responsible for the execution and support of all opto-mechanical activities as they relate to the production of optical-mechanical assemblies; have the ability to handle delicate optical and mechanical components during assembly process, and clean, bond, and assemble all parts associated with opto-mechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various functions associated with optical components such as lapping, beveling, blocking, polishing, edging, and cleaning using appropriate machines and equipment

  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

  • Prepare, mix and test epoxies for use to bond a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, or structures into semi-finished or finished products

  • Operate ovens to complete bonding cycle, control conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to the specifications for the materials and the bonding agent being used

  • Use a variety of metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optical and mechanical components for accuracy and quality

  • May build or modify equipment used to test precision optics

  • Set up and test complete units and subassemblies under operational conditions

  • Work in accordance with established safety rules and good housekeeping practices

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 3 - 5 years of opto-mechanical and optical assembly experience

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blue prints

  • Ability to follow work instructions

  • Ability to follow epoxy mixing and bonding instructions

  • Use of basic hand tools

  • Ability to work independently, strong attention to detail, and good written/verbal communication skills

  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills

  • U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of optical and electrical test equipment

  • IPC- J-STD soldering skills

  • IPC-620 cable and wiring skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit or stand for long periods

  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. when/if required

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
