AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications.

Overview

Reporting to the Xinetics Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager 1 will collaborate across various AOX business areas to develop and enhance critical technical capabilities that drive our business. The successful candidate will work closely with their team and business area leaders to develop engineering talent, tools, and processes, as well as work closely with manufacturing, quality, and program management to deliver high-quality product in a team oriented, customer focused, high-growth and highly-technical work environment. This position is a dual role encompassing both people and individual contributor project/technical leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform individual mechanical design work 50-75% of the time

  • Lead the technical design and product development work of 8 to 15 Xinetics mechanical engineers

  • Ensure Mechanical Engineering work product is in compliance with ASME Y14.100, the AOX Quality Management System and AOX policies

  • Support Human Resources/Talent Acquisition with recruiting/sourcing goals

  • Performance Management – coaching, employee engagement, development, career planning, mentoring, etc.

  • Support new business activities; provide ME estimates, proposal inputs, support planning/schedule efforts

  • Travel as needed to customer locations to support design and program reviews

  • Attend meetings, seminars, symposiums and trade shows as required

  • Assess, develop, and implement continuous design improvement processes and compliance

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 9+ years of mechanical design experience – specifically Space systems opto-mechanical and optical mount design expertise including adaptive optics, fast steering mirrors, gimbal systems, jitter/beamwalk controls, deformable mirrors, and silicon carbide structures (adhesives/bonding techniques)

  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory/management role, including technical leadership and performance/career development within a Dept of Defense(DoD), Space, Aerospace and/or Precision Device/Structure product development manufacturing environment

  • Proven technical achievements along with demonstrated successes in engineering supervisory and project management roles

  • Possess leadership skills to develop, organize and execute engineering activities, including building teams, and assessing technical performance

  • Experience preparing and executing detailed program reviews; developing and managing engineering processes and standards; coordinating engineering services, infrastructure and tools; and planning and development of engineering budgets and staffing

  • Maintains a positive and professional working environment

  • Possess superior analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, division managers, and peers in the business areas

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills

  • Advanced Solidworks skills (or similar 3D engineering modeling software)

  • Advanced MS Office skills

  • US Citizenship is a requirement for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Management

  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Travel up to 10% of the time domestic/international as required

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and light physical effort required

Salary Range: $1.00 - $1.00

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
