You will drive us towards our goal of transitioning clients from residential care to independent living or family reunification. You’ll set higher standards of excellence for the care and growth of your residents. You’ll be in charge of your 24-hour Shelter program and your entire Shelter staff. You’ll teach, coach, encourage, motivate and hold accountable your team—inspiring them to find, and give, the best they have to offer. You’ll show them what it’s like to serve a higher purpose. You know what this role involves, because you’ve done it, or you’re doing it now, or you’re trained and ready for your turn to be in charge. So you know that these are some of the key responsibilities;
Provide a safe, supportive, nurturing environment for your residents.
Screen, assess and process referrals for intake into the shelter program.
Active involvement in daily crisis intervention
Oversee direct shelter services, ensuring program and day-to-day operational effectiveness.
Recruit, hire, manage, train and schedule staff, interns and volunteers.
Ensure grant and licensing requirements and other regulations are met.
Review documentation including progress notes, medical logs, facility binders and staff reports. Compile statistics and narratives that contribute to monthly, annual and ad hoc reports.
Provide managerial oversight of budget and expenditures.
Here are some of our required and desired qualifications;
Required: High School Diploma
Required: 5+ years of program management experience, preferably in a licensed, residential child/ youth care setting, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
Required: Leadership traits and big-picture thinking.
Preferred: Experience working with youth who are runaways, homeless, juvenile offenders or involved in high-risk activities.
Preferred: Familiarity with the Detroit community and its resources.
Required: Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights and weekends.
Required: This position requires regular driving. Incumbents must have reliable transportation, must possess a driver’s license and automobile insurance, and must have a good driving record.
