Job Description

This position provides legal secretary services to litigation attorneys and other members in the Jobs Court Program (JCP) unit in the Assistance with Convictions & Expungements Division of the Department of Attorney General. Duties include docketing, maintaining/organizing case files, maintaining program calendars, scheduling of meetings, assist in data collection , as well as preparation of documents for Assistant Attorney General and other program members, specifically of JCP cases . This position requires maintaining the JCP reports for all cases handled for yearly/quarterly reporting. The position requires an understanding of the legal criminal process and procedural requirements of the district and circuit courts in the State of Michigan.

Experience

Legal Secretary 7

Two years of administrative support experience where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work, including one year equivalent to 6-level administrative support experience.

Legal Secretary E8

Three years of administrative support experience where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work, including one year involving legal secretarial practices equivalent to a Legal Secretary 7.

Legal Secretary 9

Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including two years involving legal secretarial practices equivalent to a Legal Secretary 7 or one year equivalent to a Legal SecretaryE8.

Additional Requirements and Information

Some positions may require stenographic skills.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
