This is an apprenticeship role for Machining Technician. The role will lead you to become an Engineering and Machining Technician . During the training, you will be working as part of a team within the onsite Toolroom.

Your learning will include but not limited to: Engineering materials, Maths, Hand Fitting, Manual Milling, Advanced Milling, Manual Turning, Advanced Turning, CNC programming, organisation efficiency, mechanical inspection, Robotics, Computer aid Design

3 Year fixed term contract to complete the Appreniceship.

Work towards your qualification and further learning as required by the company, either day or block release.

Below duties are a part of the learning journey:

  • Use Lathe and Miller to machine materials

  • Utilise CNC plasma cutter for materials

  • Cutting various materials with chop saws, table saws and hand tools.

  • Drilling and fettling various materials

  • Follow documented dynamic risk assessments to perform safe and defect free assembly of parts and components, using various hand/power tools and lifting equipment provided in the work area.

  • Read drawings to manufacture a variety of Jigs, fixtures and stands.

  • Adhere to Caterpillar best working practices.

  • Follow and utilise Caterpillar Production System principles of continuous improvement reporting, waste elimination and standard work.

  • Participate in product / process improvement dialogues as required.

  • Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe in line with 5S and total preventative maintenance (TPM).

  • Adhere to the company's Health & Safety policy and safe working practices.

  • Adhere to Caterpillar's Values in Action: Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, Teamwork.

  • Undertake training and further learning as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 / A* - C. Level 3 in Engineering & Maths level 3 or, equivalent qualifications will be considered.

  • Demonstrate a level of mechanical aptitude and accuracy.

  • Have a fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities (willing to work overtime).

  • The ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.

  • The ability to use hand/power tools and lifting equipment.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Able to work on your own initiative and be self-motivated.

  • You will possess effective communication skills to liaise with various levels of the organisation.

  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Must be willing to work a multi-shift pattern.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Anyone who has completed the Caterpillar apprenticeship programme will be considered and if you do not have the required entry level qualifications.

Salary: £26,000 starting
