Campus Ministry Associate

Position Summary: The Campus Ministry Associate works within Grand View University-s Campus Ministry Department. The main purpose of this position is to oversee the Campus Ministry Leadership Team as well assist the Director of Faith Life and/or Campus Pastor in offering faith initiatives on campus. Additionally, the Associate will provide presence at Luther Memorial Church, the campus church, as directed by the Director of Faith Life.

Supervision: The Campus Ministry Associate works under the direct supervision of the Director of Faith Life.

Responsibilities: Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Director of Faith Life at Grand View University, the following constitute the major responsibilities of the position:

  • Leadership of Campus Ministry:

  • Supervise, disciple, and cultivate leadership of the Campus Ministry Team

  • Serve as an advisor to faith initiatives and programming on campus

  • Assist students in making connections between faith, life, and academics.

  • Worship:

  • Participate in and help facilitate on-campus worship opportunities, including but not limited to: Chapel, Mosaic, FCA Huddle, and Mass.

  • Engage, empower, and equip student, staff, and faculty volunteers to participate in campus worship services.

  • Format and print bulletins, as well as be responsible for Chapel setup and tear down

  • If the candidate has musical giftings, we desire them to use such gifts at various times.

  • Presence:

  • Be an active presence at Campus Ministry events and activities, including but not limited to: Homecoming (Drinks & Hymns), Scholarship Days, Involvement Fair, New student orientation, Move-in, Student Leadership retreat and training, Campus Ministry Winter Retreat, etc.

  • Be available to and contact students.

  • Make and maintain positive relationships across campus with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Nurture a spirit of community and fellowship on campus.

  • Outreach and Service:

  • Foster opportunities for students to serve both on and off campus.

  • Connect with Campus Ministry grant programs as able

  • Coordinate service opportunities for Hougen Scholars

  • Coordinate purchasing and restocking of the Hospitality Hub

  • Collaboration

  • Cultivate opportunities for students to collaborate in ministry with other departments across campus.

  • Collaborate with the Student Life office as needed.

  • Work cooperatively with other expressions and ministries of the Campus Ministry Department, including but not limited to Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Viking Catholics, and Luther Memorial Church.

  • Other

  • Participate fully in Campus Ministry-s efforts to foster a rich understanding of ecumenism and vocation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Faith Life.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Have a solid understanding of the Christian faith and a willingness to engage the Lutheran tradition.

  • Be creative, innovative, flexible, and reliable.

  • Understand and support ecumenism and interfaith contexts.

  • Be willing to work closely with a supervising Director of Faith Life and other constituencies.

  • Keep information confidential

  • Preferred Qualification

  • Communication skills (social media, graphic design, etc.)

  • Ability to lead and/or perform worship music

  • Discipleship, coaching, or mentoring experience

  • Organizational skills

    Hours are flexible and variable but frequently between Mon - Fri 8:00am-4:00pm with regular evening/weekend responsibilities. Typical hours for this position are:

    30 hours a week / August 01- April 30

    20 hours a week / May

    10 hours a week / June
