Principal Associate Accountant in Des Moines, Iowa

We are seeking an Associate Accountant to join our Real Estate Accounting and Reporting team. The Associate Accountant is involved in all aspects of the real estate investment cycle from acquisition to disposition. A person in this role will have the opportunity to work on a diverse commercial real estate portfolio which holds operating properties as well as developments.

Critical thinking, analytical skills and communication are key in this position. With minimal oversight, the Associate Accountant will work with internal and external parties to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for their portfolio of properties.

This position will:

  • Be responsible for monthly reviews of property-level financial statements including:

  • Actual-Budget variance analysis

  • Equity transactions

  • Debt payments

  • Supporting schedules for current asset and current liability accounts

  • Communicate with external property management companies to ensure timely and accurate reporting of property financial data

  • Analyze, research and communicate findings of review to property or fund controllers

  • Prepare and/or approve monthly bank reconciliations

  • Prepare and record journal entries for property acquisitions, dispositions and debt financing transactions

  • Assist in analyzing, establishing and documenting efficient procedures to ensure data integrity and timely reporting

  • Review property annual budgets

  • Prepare schedules and reports for auditors and tax preparers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience required

  • Critical thinking, process improvement, strong communication skills, agility, and self-motivation are key.

  • Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

$46600 - $63700 / year

Work Environment

This role offers the ability for in-office and hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek) work arrangements. You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.
