Center for Life Management Extended Day Program Counselor (Afternoons), Children's Department (Long Term Year-Round Temporary, Fee for Service) in Derry, New Hampshire

Center for Life Management (CLM) provides the area's most comprehensive array of mental health services for children and their families. Our multi-disciplined treatment team works with individuals ages 3 – 21 who experience mental illness and/or serious emotional difficulties. The Extended Day Program Counselor provides outpatient community-based support to assist elementary children with improving symptoms and behaviors that otherwise interfere with age-appropriate development, functioning and wellness goals in their designated after school program. This is a long term, year-round temporary, fee for service position, up to 15 hours per week position. This is a grant funded position up through June 30, 2025.

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties

  • Provide supportive counseling in a community-based, after school program setting to develop, apply, and reinforce coping strategies to reduce and/or ameliorate symptoms and behaviors that interfere with functioning and goal achievement;

  • Provide crisis intervention when child experiences acute exacerbation of symptoms to ensure their safety;

  • Work collaboratively with other after school program staff and natural support to ensure a wrap-around family systems approach is provided to the child;

  • Function professionally and in a manner that protects the integrity, confidentiality and rights of all patients;

  • Execute all required services and documentation in accordance with agency policies and federal/state standards;

  • Maintain professional memberships, licenses, accreditation, certifications, etc.;

  • Represent CLM in a professional and appropriate manner in all settings;

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health field (social work, psychology, human development, education or family studies) preferred however an Associate’s degree along with a minimum of two years of direct service may qualify;

  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment in routine, urgent, and emergent situations;

  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with all Microsoft office applications;

  • Ability to actively engage with children and conduct interactive play within a therapeutic setting is required.

  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team while also able to be self-directed and motivated with minimal supervision;

  • Ability to acquire and effectively practice new clinical skills as needed according to evolving agency needs/services;

  • Effective communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The work will take place in a community-based after school program setting in Derry, NH. Manual dexterity is needed to use computers and standard office equipment. The ability to stand, sit, bend and reach for extended periods of time is required. Reliable transportation is required. Finger prints required prior to start of employment.
