Description of Job

The full-time faculty position in the Surgical Technology department supports the Program Chair with program planning, implementation, coordination, supervision and related program management activities. The Sterile Processing Assistant Professor provides instruction to both junior and senior Sterile Processing students in the clinical setting, labs and didactically (online and/or in the classroom). This Sterile Processing Assistant Professor demonstrates excellent sterile processing procedural skills as well as the ability to communicate with staff, students, peers and clinical rotation staff. This position helps to develop and support processes for effective administration of the Sterile Processing program to include course and program development initiatives.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Prepare course offerings and class schedule which meet the requirements of the program and the needs of the students, ensuring that the instructional resources are being utilized efficiently and effectively.

  • Teach assigned courses utilizing current educational methodologies.

  • In support of the Program Chair, plan, execute and evaluate annual program goals, objectives and related activities based on the needs of the program, department, center, and College for improved performance.

  • Maintain communications and relationships with the other full-time, part-time and preceptor faculty, and other designated hospital personnel. Assist in the maintenance of all student and programmatic records as required.

  • Assist the Program Chair in ensuring that the program and curriculum are in full compliance with the requirements for accreditation, certification and other standards stipulated by appropriate external agencies.

  • Along with the Program Chair, develop, review, revise and evaluate program curriculum and instruction, facilitating innovation in curricular and instructional development.

  • Develop partnerships with medical facilities to establish clinical sites for surgical technology students.

  • Represent the program, the Center, and the College in professional activities and community events.

  • Assume other appropriate responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Chair, the Dean, the Provost, and President of CCD.

  • Participate in advisory board meetings.

  • Develop and maintain productive relations with businesses, industries, and medical facilities and other organization in the community which are pertinent to the program and its graduates.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education: (required/minimum)

An associate degree or higher in Surgical Technology or a related field.

Experience:

Two (2) years of full-time experience as a Surgical Technologist/Sterile Processing.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Skilled in all aspects of sterile processing procedures as they pertain to Sterile Processing.

Classroom instruction and curriculum development experience.

Knowledgeable of HIPAA.

Knowledge of sterile techniques and emergency protocols.

Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, D2L or other Learning Management products, and other computer software as necessary.

Licensure/Certification:

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (Required)

Certified HSPA CRCST (Preferred)
