About Fort Logan:
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHFL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHHFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental health illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHHFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18-49. The hospital has 94 adult inpatient beds, over four treatment units and opened an additional 44 beds (two units) in December 2022, with one unit currently occupied, the other unit awaiting occupancy. These two forensic units will be dedicated to providing psychiatric stabilization and restoration treatment to individuals opined incompetent to proceed as a result of their mental illness. Medical services, o ccupational therapy, neuropsychological-rehabilitation services, and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

Description of Job
This position will typically work early morning shifts, Monday - Friday.

About this Position:
This position exists to provide professional laboratory services in Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine. The position is responsible for the pre-analytical and analytical waived testing phases of the laboratory and the future expansion of waived testing activities. The work supports laboratory initiatives by providing professional-level knowledge, skill, and testing services. In addition, the position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all accreditation standards; collection of blood and other specimens; analysis of specimen quality; clinical accession; specimen processing; education of clinical staff; record-keeping through manual and electronic methods; maintenance of internal quality control mechanisms, procurement of good and services; ordering of reagents and supplies; maintenance of equipment; and competency assessment of technical staff.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
This position requires certification as a Medical Technologist (MT ASCP) or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/ Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS ASCP).
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
Two years of professional experience in a laboratory.
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Two years recent (within the past five years) working in a professional clinical laboratory as a Medical Technologist with experience in specimen processing and CLIA waived testing
Exceptional phlebotomy skills including experience with a “difficult stick” patient population
Demonstrated commitment to laboratory, phlebotomy, safety, and infection control practices
Experience working with psychiatric/behavioral health population
Solution-focused and collaborative spirit
Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
Superior organizational skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Conditions of Employment:
The successful candidate in this position must be willing and available to submit to the following conditions:
Full background check.
The classification is shift differential eligible and this position must be able to work early morning shifts.
This classification is on-call eligible, though, this position is not on-call required.
This position may be required to use, handle or be exposed to hazardous materials, such as chemical reagents.
Due to the juvenile population served at this facility, incumbents of this position must be at least 21 years of age.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Describe your professional laboratory experience to include the roles you served, the number of years working in a laboratory, and the types of settings/environments (acute care facility, research facility, etc). Describe your experience working with electronic health record and laboratory information systems including the number of years, the name of the systems used, and your level of comfort in mastering a new system.
Briefly describe your experience with CLIA waived testing to include the type of testing and number of years experience.
The position will require performing venipuncture on mentally ill patients who can be challenging from both a physical standpoint (i.e., scarring, dehydration, etc.) and a social standpoint (i.e., cooperation and comprehension). Describe your experience in obtaining a blood draw from both a difficult (physical) stick patient and an uncooperative patient; include the techniques you used to obtain the specimens.
CMHIFL is a locked and secured facility, and this position works with psychiatric/behavioral health/forensics patients. Do you have experience working with psychiatric/behavioral health/forensics patients? If yes, please describe employment experience.
