Description of Job

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Develop, implement and coordinate the campus-wide student engagement strategy. The strategy will include the integration of the Guided Pathways and the role of faculty in student engagement. Engage campus partners, such as departments within EASS, the Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Student Government Association, and student groups.

  • Supervision, training, coaching, and evaluation of Student Activities Coordinator, Graduate Assistant for Student Activities, student hourly, and work-study students.

  • Develop, implement, and assess Institutionalized and special events (Commencement, Welcome Back) including Tri- Institutional special event (Welcome Week, FallFest/SpringFling)

  • Oversee the implementation, coordination, and assessment of CityHawk SOAR Assist in committees at the Community College of Denver that directly impact student engagement.

  • Supports marketing and publications for the SPARC including: handbooks, the Student Newsletter, bathroom stall flyers, and manuals. Assist with administration of the Community College of Denver’s social media and the creation of content when necessary. Oversee Swoop, CCD’s mascot, appearances.

  • Manages all SPARC event rental supplies including a popcorn machine, cotton candy machine, equipment, etc.

  • Participate in various college and campus committees, activities, and events as designated by the Associate Dean of SPARC.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education:

Associate degree in Education, Psychology, Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Communication, or related field.

Experience:

Minimum of three years of successful experience at the collegiate level in the area of program development, student activities, residence life, student leadership, and/or student organization advising.

Demonstrated experience and skill in the areas of program and event planning and implementation; student advising.

Supervisory experience of student or volunteer staff / demonstrated managerial skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and public relations skills, including computer competencies and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of working with underrepresented student populations including students of color, first generation and low income students.

  • Ability to foster and develop working relationships and a sense of community with a broad range of students and staff in a culturally diverse environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build a co-operative, co-curricular program that blends entertainment and fun with individual awareness, understanding of important social and global issues as well as cultural concerns; can design and implement programs to develop cultural competencies in students.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of college union/student activity philosophy and a capacity to articulate and implement student development theory.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills working with students in a college setting, student organizational developmental and student programming experience.

  • Knowledge of policy and procedural implementation.

  • Strong knowledge of SPARC and student government association practices, risk management, problem solving skills.

  • Self-motivated; work independently / independent decision making.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Team building and conflict resolution skills.

  • Must possess the ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the college and service communities.

  • Ability to handle confidential information.

  • Basic understanding of social media platforms specifically: Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and TikTok

Equipment Used: Computers, printers, phones, copy machines, fax machines and scanners. Occasionally, there will be the need to use and run entertainment tools like a popcorn machine, sno-cone machine, cotton candy machine, or others as necessary.

This position requires work duringevening hoursandweekendswhen necessary.
