About Fort Logan:
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHFL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHHFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental health illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHHFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18-49. The hospital has 94 adult inpatient beds, over four treatment units and opened an additional 44 beds (two units) in December 2022, with one unit currently occupied, the other unit awaiting occupancy. These two forensic units will be dedicated to providing psychiatric stabilization and restoration treatment to individuals opined incompetent to proceed as a result of their mental illness. Medical services, o ccupational therapy, neuropsychological-rehabilitation services, and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

Description of Job
The positions filled by this recruitment could be staffed within the Civil and/or Forensic treatment units. Additionally, this position is currently expected to work Monday - Friday, though there may be some flexibility required.

About this Work Unit:
The CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) position works in the 24-hour State psychiatric hospital with individuals voluntarily and involuntarily committed for treatment. Patients receiving treatment at CMHI-FL have severe and persistent mental illness and may have traumatic brain injury, trauma disorders, and other complex dynamics. Each treatment team is multidisciplinary, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction specialists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, creative arts therapists, nurses, physicians, and mental health clinicians. In addition, the hospital offers dietary, peer, and chaplain services.
Summary of Duties:
This position exists to provide services as a recreation therapist through recreation therapy assessment and treatment services as a Clinical Therapist II. The CTRS provides therapeutic recreation with required shared programming responsibilities across teams. Direct care services are primarily provided through therapeutic groups, specialized assessments, individual sessions, and community outings when indicated. The therapist applies recreational therapy theories, practices, assessment, and treatment in a multi-disciplinary manner to inform treatment planning and recovery. The therapist documents services, maintains equipment, maintains facilities, budgets supplies, engages in risk management as assigned, engages in formal and informal quality and performance improvement activities, and provides intern supervision when appropriate. In addition, the position assists with recreation therapy based projects and assists with streamlining TR service delivery as a Clinical Therapist II. The position provides services routinely on days, select evenings, and possibly weekends (as deemed necessary).
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Special Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist credential via the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in recreation therapy or a field that meets academic accreditation requirements for the national certification exam.
One year of experience working in a recreation therapy field, a mental health treatment facility, or providing services to an adult population.
Substitutions:
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience in a behavioral health setting
Experience working with an adult population of persons with severe persistent mental illness (SPMI)
Experience with electronic health record (EHR) documentation
Experience working in a locked setting
Experience facilitating therapeutic groups
Experience with task analysis skills and rapport building
Experience with implementing the use of clinical models of practice in treatment
Registered Yoga Teacher
Other related certifications and/or continued education
Conditions of Employment:
The successful candidate in this position must be willing and available to submit to the following conditions:

Must be 21 years of age or older
May be required to transport patients during outings.
May be required to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
