The primary purpose of the High School Connections office is to support high school students who take CCD college classes while they are in high school through the Concurrent Enrollment, ASCENT, P-TECH, and Early College programs. These programs are offered both at the high school and CCD campuses. This position collaborates closely with high school / district staff, students, and families to provide them opportunities to complete a credential at Community College of Denver (CCD). This position will lead student orientations, provide individual and small group advising, engage in high school events like Back-to-School and college prep evenings, and assist in the registration process while maintaining the necessary documentation when working with students. They also direct students to college and partner resources, assist with scholarship information, and aid in retention efforts to keep students engaged and guide students to completion of the appropriate college credential during and after high school.

This position helps maintain records and compliance. The Navigator collects data for tracking audits and believes collaboration between high school partners is impactful for student success. The Navigator tracks compliance with pre-registration, application, course readiness, registration and post-registration targets.

Description of Job

PRIMARY DUTIES

Assist and advise students.

  • Empower students to be excellent self-advocates for their own educational goals

  • Guide students toward appropriate course selection within their chosen discipline pathway.

  • Direct students to appropriate support resources when necessary

  • Engages with students for check-ins, registration, enrollment verification and tracking, schedule adjustments, and graduation completion.

  • Assist with the caseload of other concurrent enrollment programs as needed to balance out workload.

Ensure effective communication with high school counselors, their families, administrators at the high schools, and CCD colleagues.

  • Build and strengthen cross-departmental knowledge and sharing of processes throughout CCD.

  • Create and conduct school-based presentations and workshops both to students, families, and school staff.

  • Engage in effective outreach in both English and Spanish, including but not limited to, the publication of newsletters, participation in back-to-school nights, and development of parent conferences.

  • Clearly explains billing options for students and their families.

  • Coordinates efforts with high schools for program of study verification, approvals, registration, October count, and academic progress monitoring

    Administrative functions

  • Maintain accurate records of all advising contacts using identified departmental resources.

  • Manage caseload to ensure timely communication, focus, workload, and documentation.

  • Exhibit knowledge and expertise related to ASCENT/TREP, and other concurrent enrollment programs.

  • Adhere to departmental and CCD processes and procedures.

  • Actively maintain currency on determined program pathways, as well as academic program options

  • Complete required state and institutional reporting for the programs.

Develop and maintain a student-positive culture within CCD to assist with matriculation of high school graduates to our programs.

  • Coordinate activities and workshops that expose students to resources and clubs at CCD.

  • Facilitate in matriculation, pipeline, and recruitment events.

  • Participate in staff meetings.

  • Work effectively both individually and as a member of a team.

  • Demonstrate effective, sensitive communication in a multi-cultural environment.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Education: (required/minimum)

Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Human Services, Social Work, Community Health, or related field.

OR

Associate degree with 4+ years with professional experience in a higher education setting, including but not limited to applications, orientation, financial aid, advising and registration.

Experience: (required/minimum)

One-year experience working with high school students that demonstrates knowledge of the high school mindset.

Two years working with first generation students, low-income students, and minority students.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small or large multi-generational groups of diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain records with intermediate proficiency with Excel (filter, sort) and other Microsoft office programs including the ability to keep materials in ADA/WCAG approved formatting.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage a large caseload independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated success in identifying, securing and communicating educational or career resources to meet the needs of prospective program participants.

Required Licensure/Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License, Travel to local area high schools by personal vehicle will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: master’s degree in education, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Human Services, Social Work, Community Health, or related field.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).

  • Fluency in Arabic, Vietnamese, or Amharic

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Three or more years in college academic advising in higher education, high school counseling related to concurrent enrollment and/or higher education transitions.

  • Three or more years working with first generation students, low-income students, and students of color.

  • Knowledge of Colorado statewide articulation agreements and GT pathways courses

  • Knowledge of concurrent enrollment, ASCENT, P-TECH, and Early College programs.

  • Knowledge of the community college, admissions, advising, orientation, and registration processes.

  • Experience with BANNER or other student-database information systems and educational management systems such as Degree Works, EAB, and student portals, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain records with advanced proficiency with Excel (pivot, V look up) and other office programs.

  • Knowledgeable in use and deployment of MS Teams, Shared Documents, and other Technology as appropriate.
