Transportation Construction Inspector

Job Description

Develop and maintain effective and efficient documentation throughout the project in a timely manner, including but not limited to writing daily reports (with photos) and summarizing construction activity and other important information for the day. Inspect, monitor, and evaluate construction work to ensure compliance with all codes, ordinances, regulations, standards, and contract/project specifications by reviewing, interpreting, and evaluating plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods. Evaluate construction materials (such as concrete, aggregates, pavements, and soils) and measure dimensions and elevations against blueprints and schematics. Observe and evaluate construction activities for general conformance to contract documents. Use standard inspection tools to perform inspections, present feedback on findings, and work collaboratively with others to resolve issues. Ensure safety by wearing proper personal protection equipment (PPE) and reporting any unsafe conditions to your supervisor or a member of management. Continuously identify, anticipate, and prevent safety, health, and hazard concerns by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions while on the construction site.

Responsibilities

  • Write daily reports including photos and summarize construction activity and other important information for the day.

  • Inspect, monitor, and evaluate construction work to ensure compliance with all codes, ordinances, regulations, standards, and contract/project specifications.

  • Review, interpret, and evaluate plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements, project requirements, and safety regulations.

  • Evaluate construction materials such as concrete, aggregates, pavements, and soils.

  • Measure dimensions and elevations against blueprints and schematics.

  • Observe and evaluate construction activities for general conformance to contract documents.

  • Use standard inspection tools including measuring tape, smart level, measuring wheel, soils probe, mobile devices, metering devices, and other test equipment to perform inspections.

  • Present feedback on findings and work collaboratively with others to resolve issues.

  • Wear proper personal protection equipment (PPE).

  • Report any unsafe conditions to your supervisor or member of management.

  • Continuously identify, anticipate, and prevent safety, health, and hazard concerns by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions while on construction site.

Essential Skills

  • 4+ years of roadway/transportation construction inspection experience.

  • Ability to monitor and document that construction work is in compliance with all codes and regulations.

  • Ability to evaluate construction materials such as concrete pavement and soil.

  • Experience in concrete testing, soil sampling, soil testing, and asphalt testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to travel from project to project across the US and Mountain West Regions.

  • Relevant inspection certifications (erosion control, OSHA 10, CDOT basics, Traffic Control).

Work Environment

Work on site in various locations observing the construction of roadways for CDOT and Central Federal projects. You will be part of a growing company that is expanding its footprint across the region, with an office in Denver and plans to continue growing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
