Electric Vehicles, EVs, and EV Charging technology are poised to radically transform the transportation and energy industries. P.E.F.S.A (Panasonic eFleet Solutions of America) is leading Panasonic’s efforts to radically accelerate EV adoption via software and services designed to make EV adoption and management easier. Our Charge Management Solution (CMS) is cloud based software platform that empowers both fleet operators and utilities with intelligent tools to minimize energy cost, optimize operations, and participate in important grid stability programs.

The Group Manager - EV Technology is responsible for defining and executing the company’s overall technical strategy to support business objectives and deliver a cutting edge SaaS solution to the EV Fleet charge management market.

This role requires a visionary leader with a startup founder's mindset; the ideal candidate will experience the best of both worlds; the startup excitement and the large company resources, bringing extensive experience in development, operations, and integration of complex hardware, software, and big data platforms. This position will manage, build, and direct our engineering efforts, working closely with Product, Advisory, Customer Success, and other key groups. In this role, you will oversee the organization’s technical systems, resources, and personnel, creating comprehensive execution plans and setting timelines for the development, deployment, and evaluation of all technical products.

Given that PEFSA is in its early growth stages, the Group Manager – EV Technology will be expected to be hands-on in software development while also leading and scaling the engineering team. Your entrepreneurial experience and proven track record of successes in this field will be crucial in driving innovation, agility, and excellence within our rapidly evolving company. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in scaling the company's revenue from a small base to billion dollar business opportunities, leveraging your prior experience in growing startups into substantial market leaders.

Technical Strategy Leadership

  • Collaborate with the executive leadership team to set clear priorities for technical investments, tooling, and resource allocations across 6, 12, and 36 month roadmaps.

  • Provide strategic guidance on level of effort, time cost estimates, and technical approaches to support roadmap and strategic planning efforts.

  • Establish and grow capabilities with strategic industry partners to enhance technical compatibility, integration, and business opportunities.

  • Communicate technology strategies effectively to educate, guide, and align stakeholders across the organization.

Technical Execution Leadership

  • Lead the architecture and execution of scalable SaaS solutions for EV Fleet charge management, integrating with EVSEs, PV, BESS, and other Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).

  • Develop and implement policies for technology infrastructure, including data retention, disaster recovery, and system security.

  • Ensure data security, management, and governance for all PEFSA products.

  • Collaborate with business development and customer success teams to propose and deliver new product features quarterly, driving measurable value for fleet operators, utilities, and depot managers.

  • Direct research and development efforts to innovate and integrate new technologies, leveraging insights from the PEFSA Charging Lab in Denver, Colorado.

  • Enhance data value through partnerships with external companies, public agencies, and universities.

  • Coordinate Vehicle Grid Integration use cases with US and Japanese teams, alongside key partners.

Team Leadership

  • Establish team structure, roles, processes of a geographically dispersed technology organization.

  • Recruit, hire, and train high performing technical leaders and functional managers, including retention initiatives.

  • Manage resource allocation, goal/OKR setting, and key performance metrics.

Executive Leadership

  • Shape and execute company strategy as an executive leader within an early stage business unit, aiming for rapid revenue growth to hundreds of millions of dollars within five years.

  • Develop multi year business plans, oversee annual budgets exceeding $10M dollars, and lead 10-year forecasting for technology resources.

  • Scale products and position the business for profitable market expansion and potential exit from incubation stage.

  • Ensure successful execution of multiple client engagements and drive an innovative, collaborative culture across the organization.

  • Foster joint go-to-market strategies between PEFSA and other Panasonic business divisions to maximize market impact and revenue growth.

What You'll Bring:

Education and Experience

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred. Strong technical foundation to drive complex technology initiatives.

  • 15+ years of experience in designing and managing scalable technology infrastructures. Extensive experience in overseeing and scaling technical infrastructures to support business growth.

  • 10+ years’ experience leading teams to achieve business objectives, including managers and multidisciplinary technical.

  • Proven track record in leading and growing engineering teams in startup environments. Demonstrated ability to build and manage high performing teams in fast paced, dynamic settings.

  • Experience scaling startups from inception to significant revenue and operational scale. Successful history of transforming startups into substantial, revenue generating businesses.

  • Substantial experience in the Energy and, or Transportation industries. In depth knowledge and experience specific to the EV and charging infrastructure sector.

  • Hands on experience with system integration and complex technology platforms. Practical knowledge of integrating diverse systems, including software, hardware, and big data platforms.

  • Proven ability to secure technology IP through the patent process. Experience in identifying and protecting innovative technologies.

  • Proficiency in agile, waterfall, and hybrid systems engineering methodologies. Expertise in various project management approaches to ensure effective execution.

  • Experience in solar and battery energy management within the fleet charging context. Relevant technical background to support energy management solutions.

  • Familiarity with smart charge management use cases (time of use, V2B, V2G): Specialized knowledge in advanced charge management and integration.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute technical strategies that drive business outcomes. History of translating technical vision into practical solutions that achieve business goals.

  • Track record of building a culture of innovation and excellence. Experience fostering a high performing, innovative organizational culture.

  • Deep technical proficiency and hands on development experience. Fluency in multiple programming languages, software, and systems relevant to the role.

  • Experience with telematics and industry standards (OCPP, OpenADR 2.0b, IEEE 2030.5): Expertise in integrating telematics systems and adhering to industry standards.

  • Up to 25% travel required (US domestic, Charging Lab located in Denver, CO)
