WSP USA Industrial Hygienist/Environmental Specialist in Denver, Colorado

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Industrial Hygienist/Environmental Specialist for our Federal Programs Denver, CO office. Be primarily involved in projects with our General Services Administration (GSA) client portfolio and supplement with assisting the US Postal Service (USPS) Client Team as well. Your Impact

Primary Duties and Responsibilities will include (80-90% of your time):

  • Participate in the GSA compliance with drinking water management program and compliance with throughout Region 8:

  • Provide technical drinking water program support and training to regional Facility Managers, Facility Operations Teams, Project Managers, Lease Administration Managers, and additional internal customers as needed.

  • Reviewing drinking water reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness and providing recommendations to GSA as needed.

  • Provide review and input on mitigation and corrective action efforts in buildings where sources of poor drinking water are identified.

  • Participate in Town Hall meetings with GSA tenant agencies regarding identified adverse drinking water conditions.

  • Participate in training sessions directed at the GSA offices with regards to this program.

  • Participate in the GSA Health & Safety and Fire Life Safety (EHSF) Assessment program throughout Region:

  • Ensure all Federally Owned and Leased buildings are provided with an adequate level of safety. The EHSF Branch requires that both Federally Owned and Leased buildings are periodically assessed for the various environmental and safety disciplines in accordance with federal regulations, GSA policies, and applicable codes and standards.

  • Perform assessment and associated reporting tasks associated with this program.

  • Travel to Region 8 GSA sites to perform assessments.

Other Ancillary Duties and Responsibilities may include (10-20% of your time):

  • Participate in the nationwide USPS environmental management program:

  • Collect, identify, and compile observational, spatial, and environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.

  • Perform industrial hygiene (IH) surveys and audits, indoor air quality (IAQ) and noise assessments;

  • Perform surveys on asbestos-containing building material ((ACBM), lead-based paint (LBP) and mold surveys and investigations;

  • Perform emergency related fiber release assessments and reporting;

  • Perform emergency site assessments and remediation/repair scope of work development;

  • Interact with clients and other WSP teaming members on a number of projects and assignments;

  • Perform basic project management tasks including; reporting, project budget management, invoicing and procurement requests for sub-contractors;

  • Review sub-contractor submittals and close out documentation for compliance requirements;

  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, laboratory documentation, written procedures, monitoring systems, and log-books;

  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work;

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; and

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related degree/IH experience.

  • 1-3 years of relevant general occupational safety and health/industrial hygiene, or other ecology/environmental experience.

  • Requires 20% travel, including short duration (2-6 days at a time) overnight trips

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.

  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

  • Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective manner to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Water sampling knowledge or experience with a focus on Legionella, Total coliform, metals, and physical parameters. Knowledge of water quality standards

  • Prior experience performing industrial hygiene (IH) surveys & audits; water sampling, indoor air quality (IAQ) and noise assessments; asbestos-containing building material (ACBM), lead-based paint (LBP) and mold surveys and investigations; asbestos abatement and fiber release assessments; environmental investigations, conduct environmental sampling of soil and groundwater, EH&S/occupational safety training; and/or medical monitoring program oversight.

  • Proposal writing and cost estimating experience.

  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).

  • Current asbestos and/or lead-based paint certifications or the ability to obtain current credentials within 1 year.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $64,700 - $88,800

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
