Description of Job

TheAccountingSection of the Division of Gaming primarily exists to comply with: Limited Stakes Gaming statutes requiring monthly financial reporting to the Governor, State Treasurer, Speaker of the House, President of the Senate, etc.; comply with fiscal rules including adequate internal controls, modified accrual reporting; provide all financial services such as collecting monies due, make prompt refunds of background deposits, design and install computer system changes resulting from statutory requirements, management requirements, internal controls, GAAP, and audit recommendations. Following the passage of Proposition DD, the Gaming Accounting Section is also responsible for effectively controlling and managing separation of costs between Gaming and Sports Betting operations. The Division operates from three cities within Colorado and has a staff of 90. This section also provides meaningful and timely reports for Division of Gaming staff and managers.

We're hiring an individual with a keen eye for detail and excellent organizational and problem solving skills to be ourGaming Background and Accounts Receivable Accountant IIfor the Gaming Division! You will review reports, documents and spreadsheets with great attention to discover discrepancies and problem solve complex issues. This position receives an abundance of information and must be able to organize a workload in order to accomplish priorities, track tasks and meet deadlines. Your written and verbal communication skills will allow for better information gathering from other work units and solving problems in a timely fashion. Primary Duties:

  • Monitor all background investigation accounts forGaming and Sports Betting. Determinethe status of the accounts and correct and request information regarding the progress of the investigation from the assigned investigators.
  • Prepare background deposit reconciliations and route to investigators, or invoice the account holder for additional funds.
  • Track the background reconciliation process and report as they are routed through investigations, record and track all invoices sent and payments received while keeping the Investigations unit advised.
  • Analyze data and generate non-standard accounting reports in MLO, the Divisions Licensing and Background Accounting system, as it relates to accurate financial reporting of revenues and expenditures.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations between MLO and CORE systems for background deposits, refunds, and travel for the Division financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries to ensure all expenses are correctly coded between each Fund.
  • Handle accounts receivable including creating and monitoring internal reports on outstanding accounts receivable and verifying receivables related to the reimbursement of invoices and background billings.
  • Track all out of state and foreign Background Investigative travel requests from the Division through the Department and other State offices until approved.

Position Details:

  • This position is required to report to the Lakewood office approximately once a week to process mail and other documents. There will be in office meetings or training approximately once a quarter (or more if needed).
  • Unless there is a unique circumstance, this position, along with the other members of the accounting section, are not allowed to take personal leave from approximately July to early September every year due to Fiscal Year End requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the qualifications:

OPTION 1:

6 years of experience in accounting (such as financial reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, preparing monthly financial statements, and preparing or reviewing journal entries).

OPTION 2:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting.

AND

2 years of professional experiencein accounting (such as financial reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, preparing monthly financial statements, and preparing or reviewing journal entries).

OPTION 3:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitutions:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution which included 27 semester hours of accounting or auditing coursework will substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy will substitute for the degree requirement and two years of the professional accounting experience.
