DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

About the Unit This position works in The Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) Pavement Management Unit of the Materials and GeoTech Division. This work unit collects, compiles, analyzes, and reports data that is necessary for the strategic management of CDOT s Surface Treatment Program, which manages approximately 23,000 lane miles of highway. This unit develops and coordinates CDOT s pavement management program, creates reports, and runs budget analyses. This unit develops treatments, costs, triggers, and resets used in CDOT s pavement management program, which is used for Pavement Asset Management.

About the Position The Engineer in Training I will work under the guidance and direction of a licensed Professional Engineer and will: learn to track the status of Surface Treatment projects using CDOT computer systems and perform engineering data analysis to determine the appropriate treatment unit costs for the Pavement Management modeling software; learn to apply engineering practices and professional standards to the quality assurance processes for ensuring valid condition data and analyze year to year changes in the data; learn to use and evaluate changes to specialized pavement management software to maintain and advance CDOTs pavement management engineering analyses and learn to analyze the Pavement Management condition data and evaluate the performance of pavements.

Major duties and responsibilities are performed under the guidance and supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer and include, but are not limited to the following:

Pavement Asset Management

Learn to track the status of Surface Treatment projects using CDOT computer systems. Maintain an updated list of where and when Surface Treatment Projects are scheduled for construction and coordinate with other CDOT units/divisions on these projects. Track current unit costs for typical bid items for Surface Treatment projects. Track projects with paving that are not Surface Treatment projects. Confirm that pavement treatments are entered in the pavement inventory system, track funding used for Surface Treatment projects; track work type for Federal Reporting. Estimate additional funding being spent on on-system roadways. Perform engineering data analy is by reviewing As-Built Plans and unit costs from bid tabs to determine the appropriate treatment unit costs for the Pavement Management modeling software and to determine the costs of essential items when bundling with other assets. Provide data to support presentations to the Transportation Commission and Executive Leadership. Help review surface treatment lists submitted by the CDOT statewide Regions and validate Region-specific model match criteria. Work closely with the Performance and Asset Management Branch and provide data to this Branch for the Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) and for Federal reporting. Pavement Condition Management Learn to perform quality assurance checks of Pavement Management pavement condition data and Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) pavement condition data and analyze results using various methods including learning to
