Position Summary

The Deputy Equal Opportunity Coordinator is a senior member of the Office of Equal Opportunity & Title IX leadership team. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Equal Opportunity and Title IX, the Deputy Equal Opportunity Coordinator is responsible for managing and responding to reports of protected class discrimination and harassment under federal, state, or local law, and in accordance with the University of Denver's Discrimination and Harassment Policy. In counterpart to the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Deputy Equal Opportunity Coordinator will be responsible for outreach, intake, and coordination of supportive measures for individuals reporting discrimination or harassment on the basis of a protected status. The Deputy Equal Opportunity Coordinator will also help to ensure University compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and assist in the continued development of the University's equal opportunity strategic plan and initiatives

Essential Functions

The responsibilities of the Deputy Equal Opportunity Coordinator will include:

  • Reviewing and promptly responding to all reports and complaints of alleged discrimination and harassment based on protected characteristics to determine jurisdiction, conducting walk-in intakes and initial outreach to complainants and reporting parties, explaining resolution options to parties, drafting notices of investigation, conducting informational interviews, and determining appropriate resolution pathways.
  • Offering and coordinating supportive measures for Complainants impacted by discrimination or harassment on the basis of a protected status and Respondents involved in a resolution process under the Discrimination and Harassment Policy;
  • Developing processes for informal resolutions and facilitating informal resolutions among community members in discrimination and harassment matters.
  • Conducting climate assessments, inquiries, or administrative reviews of university departments consistent with university policy and procedures.
  • Collaborating with University partners, stakeholders, and community members to create and provide training related to discrimination and harassment, the University's grievance procedures, and employee reporting obligations.
  • Assisting the Associate Vice Chancellor in reviewing and updating University policies and procedures concerning discrimination, harassment, and gender-based violence to promote compliance with equal opportunity laws and regulations.
  • Assisting the Associate Vice Chancellor in monitoring and assuring compliance with the University's equal opportunity plan and responding to requests and inquiries from university staff hiring committees and human resource partners regarding EEO compliance; and
  • Provide other services/duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience interpreting and administering policies implementing Title VI, VII, IX, VAWA/SaVE, ADA, ADEA, and other relevant anti-discrimination laws and regulations specific to higher education, including FERPA and the Clery Act.

  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to and interact with all levels of organizational staff.
  • Working knowledge of Human Resource functions and ability to properly refer participants to the appropriate resource(s).
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
  • Unquestionable integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in a wide variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance a demanding caseload while managing time effectively.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with training and/or experience in objective writing.
  • Proficient level computer skills, including use of database, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt to interruptions during the workday and respond calmly to stressful situations. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and five years' progressively responsible experience in civil rights compliance or workplace investigations of harassment and discrimination. Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., law, human resources, higher education).

  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience and training in trauma-informed practices, including ability to teach and train others
  • Experience implementing informal resolution or alternative resolution (e.g., mediation, restorative justice)
  • Experience developing and presenting training for diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with Maxient, CaseIQ, or similar case management system Working Environment
