Kaiser Permanente CT/Biomedical Engineer II (ROC) in Denver, Colorado
Under the general supervision of the Director, Biomedical Engineering, or the Biomedical Services Supervisor, maintains all clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic biomedical instrumentation and systems used in the medical centers throughout the region.
Works independently to repair all types of biomedical instrumentation within the region. Assignment may include anywhere from two to seven medical facilities. Analyzes and corrects equipment malfunctions to include: observation of front panel indicators; interpretation of block and schematic diagrams; utilization of appropriate test equipment; replacement of components, PC boards, or subsystems as appropriate.
Performs Preventive maintenance inspections. Verifies, calibrates, and certifies proper operation of all biomedical equipment in assigned facilities. Restores equipment to manufacturers' specifications. Works with clinical personnel to correct operator based problems. Uses knowledge and experience to test and maintain biomedical instrumentation not having specific maintenance procedures.
Receives new equipment/systems and coordinates assembly/installation. Performs initial electrical safety inspections and assurance testing. Provides or helps coordinate in-service training. Inventories and completes documentation for entry into automated Maintenance Management Systems.
Performs miscellaneous duties in support of the Biomedical Maintenance Program including, but not limited to: project management; IT integration planning and implementation; technology assessment; property accountability; incident reporting; supply management; maintenance of shop operations; capital review; on-call & emergency services, etc.
Employs sound computer skills to complete job. Uses word processing, spreadsheets, databases and similar programs to enhance job performance.
Ensures compliance with all federal/state/local rules and regulations and all applicable policies and procedures governing Kaiser Permanente, National Facilities Services, and Biomedical Engineering operations. Assists in developing and maintaining a comprehensive and cost-effective Medical Equipment Management Program to comply with same.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience serving comprehensive biomedical equipment in a hospital or related health service environment required.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Valid driver's license
Familiarity with a variety of biomedical devices to include equipment employing electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, optics, and plumbing principles required. Typical categories of equipment serviced include patient therapy, pulmonary, imaging, monitoring, laboratory, sterilizing, and optical equipment. Specific examples of these types of equipment include ultrasound units, respirators, x-ray processors, electrocardiographs, microscopes, electrical/steam sterilizers, and vision testers.
Excellent communication and customer relations skills and the willingness to work extended hours required.
Must be computer literate and able to operate an automated Maintenance Management System.
Must be able to clearly distinguish colors.
Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, and working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods.
Regularly lifts objects weighing from 10 to 40 pounds and, occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds.
The use of a personally owned vehicle.
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Certification in medical instrumentation by AAMI, military, or similar organization preferred.
Associate's degree in biomedical instrumentation maintenance and repair, OR DOD military training, OR two (2) years of experience in a directly related field preferred.
