The Facebook Design community is pioneering technologies to bring people closer together, and our teams share in the responsibility of doing it at a global scale. The Facebook Content Design team is one of the largest and most established in the world, and includes people at various stages in their careers. Content Design Leaders at Facebook lead teams that craft simple, straightforward and human experiences by leveraging our expertise in user experience design, design thinking, product strategy and content. WhatsApp is looking for a Content Design Director with strong content design, communication and leadership skills. As a Content Design Director, you will lead and manage teams to ensure our products and features are valuable for people, businesses and communities, are easy to use, and of the highest level of craft and execution. In this role, you'll be a working with your partners in product design, UX research, product management, engineering, marketing, and other disciplines to define the strategy, operations, and communications that guide the team to build great products addressing real user needs. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamentals in people management; org building; content design, systems and user experience; experience elevating content quality and efficacy in a data-informed product culture, and a passion for equalizing global access to our product experiences. Manage a team that is large in size and/or complexity.
Manage independently, including other managers.
Become a trusted, strategic partner to product stakeholders by communicating and demonstrating the value of content design, and by delivering insights that lead to demonstrable business value.
Identify problems and provide solutions. Set clear expectations and goals for individuals and the team.
Communicate clearly and effectively across all organizational levels.
Make staffing decisions based on business priorities, both short term and long term, as well as team strengths and motivation.
Adjust management style to effectively get the most out of each team member.
Shape team strategy, identifying risks and prioritizing opportunities.
Identify gaps and solutions for future growth and scale within the team or org.
Responsible for the quality of the team, including coaching, growing IC's and managers (if applicable) and coaching under-performing team members.
Build a diverse and an inclusive environment across the team, model inclusive behaviors, and hold managers accountable.
Give clear, actionable feedback on a timely basis.
Partner with the recruiting org to help deliver top talent.
Drive team execution, culture, and process across the FB content design community.
Mentor other managers at their level or below, especially coaching first time managers and those managers new to Facebook.
Have a point-of-view about strategic decisions, using insights from the team. Understand how to influence stakeholders and leaders to implement the best ideas.
10+ years experience in content design or a related field
5+ years experience directly managing, coaching and developing full-time employee
Experience building teams over time through hiring, growing, and retaining high-performing employees
Experience working with a variety of cross-functional peers and stakeholders (e.g., product managers, data scientists, product designers, researchers, engineers, policy, communications, marketing)
5+ years of experience working with product teams
1+ years experience managing managers
Experience influencing product strategy with cross function partners
Experience establishing a Content Design, or similar, team within an established organization
