Your Opportunity

Investigates, evaluates, and resolves Professional Liability claims primarily in the engineering, architectural, planning and construction fields. Provides a superior level of customer service to internal and external business partners. Administers and resolves claims in a timely manner and in accordance with company, insurer, and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promptly investigates all assigned claims for coverage, liability assessment, damages evaluation and subrogation/contribution. Ensures timely disposition of all claims in accordance with company, insurer, and regulatory and statutory requirements.

  • Within granted authority, establishes appropriate loss and expense reserves with documented rationale. Maintains and adjusts reserves over the life of the claim to reflect changes in exposure. Notifies appropriate management when exposure exceeds authority. Negotiates claims resolution within granted authority.

  • Establishes and executes appropriate action plans for claim resolution including loss cost management.

  • Comply with Company’s Claim Management manual requirements.

  • Works collaboratively with internal and external business partners in investigating and reaching appropriate disposition of all claims.

  • Selects and manages service vendors in accordance with Company guidelines.

  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of regulatory and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency through timely, consistent execution of best claim practices and established claims handling guidelines.

  • Communicates effectively with internal and external customers on claims and account issues.

  • Maintain and manage a diary system of claims pending to efficiently and effectively resolve all claims.

  • Effectively manage litigation process and defense counsel to ensure timely and cost effective outcomes.

  • Prepares and submits claim status and excess reports to Company management, primary and excess insurers, and monitoring counsel.

  • Potential travel for claims investigations, mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and trials.

  • Obtains and maintains state/provincial adjusting licenses, as needed. Ensures that all state/provincial-required Continuing Education Credits are obtained as needed to maintain license and/or designation.

  • Demonstrate commitment to Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies and procedures, standards and laws applicable to job responsibilities in the performance of work.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Credentials

  • Familiarity with coverage, negligence principles, investigation and negotiation techniques.

  • Control Adjuster Experience would be an asset.

  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation or experience in adjusting construction claims would be an asset.

  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.

  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and exercise good judgment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Computer literacy, including working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, CRM or Equivalent. Legal education considered a plus.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience handling Professional Liability claims.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • NYC $108,900/Outside NYC $86,400 - NYC $163,300/Outside NYC $129,600 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

  • $95,000 - $142,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

  • $102,000 - $152,900 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA

  • SF Area $108,900/CA Other Areas $95,000 - SF Area $163,300/ CA Other Areas $152,900 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
