Labeling Compliance and Specification Specialist

Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC) is a fully integrated foodservice and private label producer of fresh and processed meats based in Delphi, Indiana (near Lafayette, Indiana). Since the start of operations in 1991, we have experienced rapid growth from a single pork processing company into a multi-plant diversified producer of fresh and processed meats, with locations throughout America's Heartland.

Summary

Indiana Packers Corporation is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Labeling Compliance and Specification Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure all product labeling meets USDA regulations, with a focus on fresh pork and raw bacon. This role is highly collaborative with FSQA, Operations, Marketing, and customers. The Quality Assurance Specialist also provides internal support for specification accuracy, auditing resources, and customer needs. The position is in person at the Delphi, Indiana facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Purchasing, customers, and external vendors to develop and compliant labels from product development through market launch
  • Create box labels through the company's ERP system, assuring functionality and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate new product set-up including specifications, packaging, ERP data entry, and coordinating with production team
  • Submit sketch approvals for FSIS LSAS approval, including Temporary Approvals as needed
  • Complete USDA generic label approvals. Maintain records of label submissions and approvals.
  • Maintain Product Specifications for internal and external use
  • Stay apprised of regulatory changes
  • Actively monitor Regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Research USDA Export Library as needed for new export markets
  • Create and maintain internal specification tools to assist operations and auditing
  • Use QMS software to develop and update auditing forms and resources
  • Maintain customer portals for specifications and product attributes
  • Drive consistency and effectiveness related to GDSN and GS1 standards, including assigning GTINs

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, Animal Science, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of USDA labeling regulations
  • 3-5 years of experience in food labeling compliance

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
  • Highly organized
  • Motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience in BarTender labeling software, SAP, and SafetyChain is beneficial
  • Knowledge of GDSN and GS1 standards and barcode formats, preferred

Physical Requirements

Work is primarily performed in an office and plant environment requiring the ability to sit, talk, hear, frequent walking, standing, and sitting; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Ability to use standard office equipment such as telephone, computer, and copier.
