We are currently seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer/Modeler with a decade of experience to join our R&D department and contribute to our mission of excellence.

The Senior Data Engineer/Modeler will be an integral part of our team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex data models and infrastructure that support our scientific and research initiatives. With a deep understanding of data engineering principles and extensive experience in the field, you will work closely with data scientists, researchers, and IT professionals across the organization to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and scalability of our data solutions.

Key Responsibilities Data Modeling and Architecture

  • Work closely with data scientists, researchers, data owners and stewards, and other team members to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that support their projects;

  • Design, implement, and optimize robust data models that support complex analytical or machine learning workloads and create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data models, pipelines, and infrastructure;

  • Manage and contribute to a comprehensive data architecture and schema designs that meet the needs of various stakeholders in cooperation with other organizational units within and outside Science, Research & Innovation;

  • Contributing in aligning the data strategy and governance of Science, Research and Innovation with the standards developed by other teams within the organization;

  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for junior data engineers and team members; stay current with the latest advancements in data engineering, modeling techniques, and industry trends and establish and enforce data engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices.

You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data modeling, or a similar role, ideally in a pharmaceutical or biotech industry within a scientific or research setting;

  • Familiarity with the Data Mesh principles, including domain-oriented data ownership, data as a product, self-serve data infrastructure, and federated computational governance, and data architecture design;

  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, experience with Azure is a plus), their related data services and integrations with Databricks, Unity Catalog, and DBT for[TV1] data transformation and modeling, including familiarity with Delta Lake, and affinity for infrastructure as code (IaC);

  • Familiarity with the FAIR data principles, and a proven track record of implementing data governance, data quality, and data security practices;

  • Experience in the Agile framework, strong communication and collaboration skills with distributed teams, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Proven experience with data modeling methodologies such as Data Vault and database schemas such as a star schema;

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools is a plus.
