R&D Data Management and Governance Expert (1 FTE)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly driven and experienced R&D Data Management and Governance Expert to join our newly formed FAIR Data Management team within the Science and Research organization. In this pivotal role, you will drive data governance and management strategies, lead digital upskilling initiatives, and promote a culture of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data practices. You will establish and lead a Data Stewardship Network, develop and implement metrics to track our FAIR data goals, and ensure effective data management across the organization. The ideal candidate is a leader in data management and governance with a strong background in a research environment. This role will be in an international setting, working within a global company, providing the opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams across various regions.

Responsibilities

  • Data Management and Governance: Implement and oversee the Science and Research data governance framework to ensure compliance with FAIR principles and good data management practices, including the (co)development of data policies, standards, and guidelines.

  • Data Stewardship and Culture: Lead a Data Stewardship Network, raise awareness of FAIR principles, and foster a culture of FAIR through a dedicated community for good data management practices.

  • Data Architecture and Metadata: Design and manage data architecture (e.g. data mesh) and metadata, including (meta)data modeling and data workflow processes to support scientists in applying the FAIR principles in challenging R&D data management activities.

  • Project Management: Lead data projects to align with organizational goals, design and implement metrics, conduct workshops and events, and stay updated with industry trends.

  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Collaborate and maintain excellent communication with a diverse range of stakeholders, e.g. biologists, microbiome scientists, data scientists, IT, and senior leaders.

You bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics or related disciplines.

  • Minimum of 4+ years in data management and governance, preferably in a large scientific organization in the industry field.

  • Knowledge of scientific data, e.g. lab and multi-omics data, is desirable.

  • Strong advocate of the FAIR principles with proven experience in their application.

  • Solid technical skills in applying good data management practices using various data tools and technologies, with desired programming knowledge (e.g., Python), and proficiency in databases, data architecture, and R&D data management systems (e.g., LIMS, electronic notebooks).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong project management and leadership capabilities. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and interact with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of emerging trends and advancements in data management.
