Stetson University Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation AS9577 in DeLand, Florida

This position won't be filled until July 1st, 2024.

The Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation will work to promote wellness and recreation on the DeLand Campus of Stetson University. They will serve as the main overseer of the operations of the Hollis Wellness Center facility, including student staff, weight training space, cardio activities, an aquatic program, and open recreation. They will additionally provide leadership to the program coordinator for SOAR (Outdoor Recreation). The Assistant Director will serve as a member of the senior leadership within the Department of Wellness and Recreation, with the expectation to uphold the departmental and University goals and mission as well as the overall goals of the CLaSS division (Campus Life and Student Success).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Director with building hours of operation, student staffing budgets, operational budgets, departmental goals, retreats, marketing, and other tasks as requested.

  • Based on learning outcomes, directly supervises, trains, and assesses professional development of approximately seven to ten student recreation facility managers who supervise over 60 additional student employees.

  • Recruits, interviews, and hires student employees for the Hollis Wellness Center and assist with this process for Intramural Sports.

  • Oversees the process of collecting and reporting facility usage numbers for Hollis Wellness Center. Run extensive assessment and feedback program for the Hollis Wellness Center, acquiring feedback from students, staff, and faculty regarding services. Communicate back to these same groups about changes and limitations.

  • Supervises program coordinator for SOAR (outdoor recreation).

  • Manages operations for Hollis Wellness Center including all equipment repair, equipment leasing/purchasing, copier management, and work orders. Work with the facilities department and outside vendors on these issues.

  • Provides oversight for aquatics program including facility management of pool.

  • Provides CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard training to student employees as needed.

  • Collaborates with the University Events and Conference Services Department to provide space for relevant summer camps, particularly through aquatics.

  • Serves on Divisional and University committees and initiatives as needed.

  • Works in collaboration with the Athletics Division in regard to facilities management.

  • Develops innovative and learning outcome-driven fitness and wellness programs.

  • Researches and stays up to date on best practices in the field of Campus Recreation through NIRSA (National Intramural Recreation Sports Association) and other means. Engages in NIRSA professional development opportunities.

  • Performs other job-related duties as requested.

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • A master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education/Promotion, Wellness, Counseling, or a related field.

  • Experience in managing a recreation facility, familiarity with best practices, and knowledge of current trends and issues in student affairs, campus recreation and recreation facilities.

    Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in campus recreation, first aid, CPR instructor, and personal trainer certifications are preferred
