Stetson University Assistant Athletic Trainer, Women's Basketball AS9982 in DeLand, Florida

The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports Stetson University by providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all student-athletes. Serving as a member of the Sports Medicine Team, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and/or Associate Athletic Trainer in the Wilson Athletic Center. Candidate should be prepared to handle all medical referrals to team physicians as well as coordinate care in the prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning, organization and administration, and professional responsibilities that come with being a collegiate athletic trainer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly responsible for the medical coverage of the women’s basketball and an additional secondary team. Coverage includes, but is not limited to attending practices, games (home and away), weight training & conditioning sessions, as well as other team-related functions.

  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer/Health Care Administrator and Associate Athletic Trainer with:

  • Pre-participation physical examination of all student-athletes

  • Oversee all phases of rehabilitation for all student-athletes for assigned teams

  • Staff education and in-service presentations

  • Assistant Athletic Trainer Recruitment

  • Other athletic trainers in coverage of athletic teams

  • Serves as liaison between the Sports Medicine staff and the Strength and Conditioning staff as well as Team Physicians

  • Maintain Wilson Athletic Center Athletic Training Room

  • Cleaning

  • Restocking

  • Inventory of supplies for all Athletic Training Rooms

  • All medical records are kept in a confidential and secure manner

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date student-athlete medical records

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs

  • Travel is required for in-season women’s basketball as deemed appropriate by the Head Athletic Trainer.

  • Other administrative duties as assign by the Head Athletic Trainer.

  • Other assignments deemed appropriate by the Stetson Head Athletic Trainer/Health Care Administrator.

  • Performs other site and position specific functions as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, administrative services, and interpersonal skills.

  • Must have the ability to work in the collegiate setting with collegiate athletes, coaches, and other athletic department staff.

  • Knowledgeable in EMR’s.

  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and requirements.

    Work Environment: In this role, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will work in a fast paced environment both indoors and outdoors at times. This position will be located at times in areas of loud noise (i.e. music, horns, whistles, videos, etc) as well as flashing and bright lights (i.e. videoboards, light shows during games, etc).

Required Experience

  • Athletic Trainer - Board of Certification.

  • Athletic Trainer - State Licensed in FL (or eligible).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training OR Master’s in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training for initial certification

  • If Bachelor’s Degree for Certification, a Master’s Degree in the related field is preferred.

  • Professional CPR/AED/First Aid

    Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

    Ideal Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate’s qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate Athletic Training experience.

  • 2 years of collegiate (basketball) experience preferred.
