ProMedica Health System RRT / Registered Respiratory Therapist - Cardiac Rehab - Per Diem - Days in Defiance, Ohio

POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Respiratory Therapist will be competent to care for patients of all ages to include infants, children, adolescents, adult and geriatric population dependent on the area assigned. This individual performs the duties and responsibilities outlined below as assigned, under minimal supervision from the Respiratory Care Department leadership team and the Medical Directors of Respiratory Care. The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs these assigned duties and responsibilities according to regulatory standards, clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures approved by the Medical Directors and Administration. This individual will frequently make independent decisions regarding modification of therapy in accordance with clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures.

  1. Collects and evaluates clinical information by assessment and patient interviews to prescribe therapy/goals to present to patients and other healthcare team members

Supervises exercise sessions, assesses patients’ pre-and post-exercise and reports any significant patient status changes to the supervising physician Conducts patient education sessions Completes required ITP (Individual Treatment Plan) for Medical Director review/signature every 30 days for Pulmonary Rehab patients Ensures the appropriate use of forms and electronic media, i.e. compliance and outcome data (National AACVPR database), QSER entry, patient adverse event log, etc. Works in conjunction with CP Rehab RNs and Exercise Physiologists to maintain adherence to AACVPR accreditation standards to maintain accreditation status of both Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs Actively collaborates with Medical Director, Manager and CP Rehab staff in development and/or review of policies and procedures in accordance with standards set forth by accrediting bodies, i.e. The Joint Commission and AACVPR. Regularly monitors and evaluates department charges and codes for appropriateness and effective utilization.

  1. Maintain appropriate levels of staffing

Oversees daily activities, monitoring and managing the flow of work and the general activities of staff. Assists with assessment of staff performance levels, educational needs, competency assessment, compliance with obligations of employment ( i.e. licensing, BLS, ACLS, TB and N-95 fit testing) Assists with disciplinary action as deemed necessary by manager Trains and evaluates performance of other respiratory therapists working in the pulmonary rehab program

  1. Maintains supplies and equipment levels

Ensures the appropriate use of forms and electronic media, i.e. employee injury forms, etc. Assists manager with timekeeping functions Maintains adequate levels of inventory and supplies including emergency supplies. Works with RN and Pharmacy to assure crash cart supplies current, appropriately stocked and defibrillator functioning and tested

  1. Provides education

Conducts and orchestrates Smoking Cessation Counseling classes Conducts and orchestrates pulmonary rehab education in the community for caregivers and patients

  1. Maintains a level of knowledge and education specific to the modality to effectively communicate with and motivate staff, as well as function as a staff therapist

Works with the department PI liaison in discovering areas for improvement and determining future PI projects Works with PMRH inpatient Transition Care Team to coordinate orders for Pulmonary Rehabilitation prior to discharge

  1. Performs required testing

Performs Pulmonary Function Testing when necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 2-year respiratory program from an accredited school

Years of Experience: at least 2 years of experience in supervision, and 1 year experience with pulmonary rehabilitation

License: Ohio Respiratory Therapist

Certification: BLS, ACLS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Skills: Demonstrates leadership, excellent communication (both written and oral), ability to work in stressful conditions, and ability to work in liaison with all departments

Certification: Tobacco Treatment Specialist

Physical Demands: move and/or position objects up to 50 pounds
