Job Title: Manual Machinist (2nd Shift)

Job Description

Join our machine shop that fabricates parts for the oil and gas industry, specializing in bearings and seals for rotating equipment. As a job shop, we handle various work orders, with part dimensions ranging from 1" ID to 36" OD and up to 12" in length, using materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, babbitt, and exotic metals. The role involves manual machining using horizontal lathes on a 4-6 jaw chuck, creating split parts with precision tolerances of +/- thousandths or less.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual machining using horizontal lathes.

  • Fabricate parts to precise tolerances of +/- thousandths or less.

  • Work with materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, babbitt, and exotic metals.

  • Create split parts that combine to form a whole piece.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.

  • Ensure high-quality standards and adherence to specifications.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of manual machining experience.

  • Proficiency in horizontal lathe machining.

  • Ability to maintain tolerances of +/- thousandths or less.

  • Experience with manual lathes, mills, and machining split parts.

  • Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with machining babbitt.

  • Previous experience in a bearing shop is preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Work Environment

Our medium-sized, clean, and organized shop is maintained at around 72F to prevent material warping. We have a mix of CNC machinists, manual machinists, QC, welders, assemblers, and general laborers. The 2nd shift runs from Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm to 10:30pm, Fridays from Noon to 8:30pm, with optional half-day Saturdays. In the future, Saturdays may become mandatory as work increases. Employees work an average of 50 hours per week and are required to wear steel-toe boots, jeans, work shirts, and safety glasses.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Deer Park, Texas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00
