Job Summary

Responsible for product design and development from concept through production for LED Drivers, ECG and LE, which includes new product, sustaining and resolution of field problems. This position will lead Hardware Engineer product design and/or redesign. The role requires to lead prototyping, testing, and verification of samples and lead various Product Design/development projects. Must be able to collaborate with of all cross-functional members of the design team.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Leads various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of switch mode power supplies. Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities including product definition, parts selection and qualification. Develops and distributes engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, Engineering Specifications, Bills Of Material, Schematics, Layouts and Quality Reports

  • Perform all qualification tests to ensure new drivers meet electrical, Thermal, EMI, mechanical and environmental requirements

  • Submits test requests and actively engages with the testing group as necessary on any required follow-up. Submits prototyping requests and works directly with the model shop for the production of prototypes and assembly of samples. Reviews functional specifications, project charters and competitors’ samples

  • Partners with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors to keep the manufacturing lines running and ensure quality product is produced

  • Actively participates in, or lead on occasion, team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product

  • Initiates and develops concepts for new products from Project Charters, and Specification Matrix provided by the Product Manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor's samples and documentation, and free design techniques. Ensures concepts are agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility

  • Continuously looks to improve processes related to productivity, quality, purchasing and manufacturing; to include sourcing new or alternate processes, equipment, and/or training of manpower. Looks for advancements or changes in technology via tradeshows, vendors or other methods

  • Support Better, Smarter, Faster & Lean Transformation efforts as a AoP team participant and assist with the completion of post-AoP activity/assignments as appropriate

Skills, Education and Minimum Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with 6 to 10 years' experience

  • Understands engineering fundamentals and has the ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings

  • High knowledge and experience on power electronics circuits as Boost, Buck, Flyback, LLC, LCC and resonant converters, Linear regulators, Transient protection circuits, EMI filter design, electronic component selection, Lifetime for electronic SMPS calculation

  • Proficient use of electrical simulation environments (Pspice / LTSpice), PCB design knowledge, electrical, standards and manufacturing rules

  • Equipment knowledge, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, AC/DC power supplies, electronic loads

  • Proficient in LEAN & Six Sigma methodology and practices such as standard work, time study, cause & effect, 5WHY analysis and other tools of DMAIC.

  • Project management experience, Management by objectives, Decision making based on risk analysis

  • Works well in cross-functional team environments

  • Leadership, to influence and enlist the cooperation of other team members to work towards the goal of completing and implementing new product development on time, and in budget

  • Knowledge of UL certification and UL testing processes applicable to LED drivers and lighting very helpful

  • Understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety Standards

Preferred Skills, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent in Electronic/Electrical Engineering with 6-10 years' experience with power electronics and SMPS
