Consumers Energy Supervisor Operations-NorthStar Clean Energy in DEARBORN, Michigan

This position is with NorthStar Clean Energy, a CMS Energy company, and is not a position of employment with Consumers Energy.

An integral part of the leadership team and to lead a safe and efficient Operations department. Support the day-to-day activities of operatons personnel and functions. Participate in discussions on process improvement actgivities and strategic planning. Responsible for personnel staff training and safety adherence. The Supervisor of Operations may support Generation Operatons, Wind turbine and work performed by turbine maintenance provider, and Balance of Plant (BOP), facilities operations or other locations as business needs determine. They will have direct supervision of operators an responsibility for quality and safety of the work performed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe, timely, accurate completion of all PM work orders assigned to the operations department. Will develop metrics to show the operations work management process progress on a weekly basis. Will ensure the support of the operations department during forced and scheduled outages

  • Verify correctness of plant drawings, labeling, and procedures and supervise correction of legacy issues

  • Provide technical assistance and assist in troubling shooting to support the plant goals

  • Will train the operations department personnel on all company policies and government regulations. Provide subordinate coaching and counseling as necessary. Will oversee the operations training program and make sure the operations personnel are performing accordingly.

  • Will assist with the operations budget for the facility

  • Coordinate and oversee contract work and tempory labor as necessary as well as special projects as necessary.

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental, plant, and company goals

  • Assist in developing and defining plant policies and procedures

  • Will learn Hexgon, the work management system and process for GGS

  • May serve as primary liaison between project owner, turbine maintenance, and BOP maintenance staff. Oversee work done by contract maintenance crews. Provide regular status reports to NorthStar organization both written and verbal at weekly meetings

  • May oversee and manage the Balance of Plant (BOP) and turbine maintenance schedule; coordinate activities and personnel in accordance with approved schedule

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • A thorough demonstrated understanding of power plant operations, including a working knowledge of the operations & maintenance functions

  • A working knowledge of chemistry as it relates to plant operations as well as environmental and water treatment programs and statutory regulations

  • Understand budgets, bid proposals, contract evaluation, basic accounting principles

  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations

  • Demonstrates the ability to read, correct, and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals

  • Ability to solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel. Analyzes and interprets data to make sound professional judgments and recommendations.

  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage and motivate subordinates.

  • Advance level of computer skills

  • Able to deal with multiple levels of personalities in people

  • Leadership or supervisory experience on a Wind Turbine Maintenance or BOP Maintenance Team

  • Experience planning and executing maintenance at a wind site

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical/engineering field or equivalent experience as well as a demonstrated track record of successful goal achievement required

  • A minimum of five year's relevant experience, with a minimum of four years in a supervisory or management position or a position in which there was oversight and delegation of tasks associated with completion of projects

Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor work including in hazardous power plant environments and computer work.

  • Inside/Outside power plant operations. Occasional local and out of town business travel.
