Corewell Health Director of Nursing Education, Research and Magnet in Dearborn, Michigan

Job Summary

The Director of Nursing Education, Research and Magnet is the nursing leader with 24-hour accountability for the planning, coordinating, directing and evaluating of nursing staff development, continuing education, nursing orientation and nursing research. The Corewell Health Professional Practice Model and Patient and Family Centered Care will be used as the foundation for developing and implementing all professional development programming. This position provides leadership and management of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Education Specialists and others as directed. The Director will oversee the assessment of learning needs for all levels of nursing and pro vide educational opportunities to address identified needs. The Director, Nursing Education, Research, Magnet Program Direc tor is responsible for developing, implementi ng, maintai ni ng , monito ring and overseeing the Magnet Program. In this role the Director will develop and implement organizational strategies and infrastructure to support clinical quality, operatio nal effective ness and shared leadership.

Essential Functions

  • Professional Development - Directs the operation of nursing education and research department. a. Conducts educational needs’ survey at least annually. b. Maintains all documents for ONA Provider Unit. c. Chairs Continuing Education Council and oversees all educational activities for staff development. d. Works collaboratively with corporate Nursing Education to coordinate educational programming. e. Facilitates and oversees orientation ( RN, NA , CA), continuing education, skills validation and professional development activities such as clinical ladder, GN Residency programs, specialty certification, and mandatory educational requirements ( e.g. BLS, Joint Commission, CMS). f. Is an active member of The Joint Commission steering committee and chapter leader. g. Makes rounds to determine quality of nursing care and ongoing educational needs. h. Facilitator and advisor for the Shared Governance chairs and councils.

  • Magnet - Develops, implements maintains , monitors and oversees the overall Magnet Recognition Program Acts as a liaison with all departments within the organization to promote nursing excellence and to support Magnet framework. a. Assures all quality and productivity metrics are submitted to NDNQI. b. Maintains relationship with Magnet Program Office, monitors list serve , and Magnet updates. c. Organizes and chairs Magnet Unit Champions Committee d. Meets with and facilitates Magnet writing teams. e. Writes, edits and submits applications, interim monitoring reports and Magnet documents to the Magnet Program Office. f. Coordinates Magnet site visit. g. Serves as Magnet advisor to the hospital Professional Nurse Council.

  • Evidence Ba sed Practice and Research a. Develops or assists in development of policies and procedures incorporating current nursing research and professionally recognized standards. b. Collaborates with peer group throughout the corporation to identify potential evidence- ba sed practice changes and/or research opportunities. c. Coordinates evidence- ba sed practice and research education, coordination and implementation at site. d. Educates nursing staff/leadership of IRB processes. e. Conducts one or more research studies as a PI.

  • Leadership – Provides management of and leadership for all direct reports and all educational and Magnet activities. a. Meets regularly with direct reports and coaches, mentors and evaluates staff as needed. b. Collaborates and provides feed ba ck in timely manner with other patient care departments. c. Prepares or assists in preparing of department budgets. d. Maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of department who might impact on program activities. e. Develops productive work teams. f. Intervenes in crisis situations and investigates all unusual incidents. g. Protects human and civil rights of patients and/or clients and staff. h. Compiles data and prepares periodic reports. i. Leads and participates in strategic planning. j. Leads and directs performance improvement activities and patient outcome studies, collaboratively with other patient care departments. Serves as process improvement leader for patient safety and quality projects. k. Monitors/evaluates compliance with The Joint commission/CMS standards. Initiates and supports activities to ensure compliance. l. Monitors/evaluates performance in NDNQI and is the site NDNQI coordinator. m. Monitor/evaluate turnover rates and works with nursing leadership to maintain metrics within Magnet Mean.

    Qualifications

  • Required Master's Degree Nursing

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in education or clinical setting with advancing leadership responsibilities is Required

  • Project management experience is Required

  • Previous research coordination, previous ANCC Magnet program coordination and DNP is Preferred

  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required

  • CRT- Ba sic Life Support Instructor (BLS INSTR) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required
