Actalent Chemist / Test Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

Job Title: Emission Test Engineer

Job Description

Our Client, working in Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering is seeking a chemist or chemical engineer with a strong background in chemistry and an understanding of catalyst function and durability for exhaust gas treatment of internal combustion engines. You will work to evaluate and investigate aftertreatment technologies in the laboratory environment and on vehicles to improve emission control for increasingly stringent standards. You will characterize materials for catalyst substrates, particle filters, and exhaust assemblies using various techniques, perform catalytic activity evaluations, benchmark supplier formulations, collaborate with various teams and specialists, and validate laboratory results on vehicle applications through testing and analysis.

Hard Skills

  • Understanding of catalyst function, failure modes, and sensitivity to inputs and noise factors

  • Experience with chassis or engine dynamometer facilities and understanding of their operations

  • Sound technical knowledge of regulated emission requirements

  • Experience with emission measurement techniques including FID, FTIR, mass spectrometry, and x-ray analysis

  • Familiarity with programming software including LabVIEW and MATLAB

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to analyze, plan, and solve sophisticated system problems related to engines and emissions

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Dearborn, Michigan.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite. It will be based out of the Research and Innovation Center but will also spend time in labs across campus in the Dearborn/Allen Park area.
