Position Summary

The Department of Family Medicine in the College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University (MSU) announces the search for a tenure-track faculty position to strengthen community-engaged research in partnership with Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) populations in Southeast Michigan.

Successful applicants will have a background in primary care, health systems, epidemiology, public health, or community health. Successful applicants will also have a demonstrated track-record of community engaged research and collaboration with MENA populations, to promote and enhance access to culturally competent physical or behavioral healthcare. While all topics of focus related to these areas will be considered, we are especially interested in applicants focused on research pertaining to care and prevention of chronic conditions and health disparities in primary care and community-based settings. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and external federal funding or scored application(s). A track record of successful research partnerships and experience in key roles within community based participatory research teams is expected.

Applicants must have a doctoral and/or an MD/DO degree with substantial experience in community-based research. The department is based in East Lansing, MI with faculty distributed throughout the state of Michigan, including researchers engaged in bench-science, clinical, and public health work. The Department offers mentorship from experienced researchers with established collaborations in Southeast Michigan, including health care systems and community health organizations that serve the MENA community. The Department also has partnerships with local and state public health departments, experts in community engaged research, and a relationship with a robust University Extension office.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a doctoral and/or an MD/DO degree with substantial experience in research. Assistant professor appointments require postdoctoral training, a K-award, or evidence of preparation for success. Associate professor level applicants require a significant record of scholarship and external funding

Desired Qualifications

Experience in community engaged research, particularly with MENA populations; evidence of successful research partnership and experience in key roles within community based participatory research teams.
