Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Deep Foundations and Ground Improvement) in our growing Geotechnical Foundations Group. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will work on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, roadway engineers, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis, design, and estimates in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects.

You will be part of our rapidly growing Kiewit District, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail/transit and systems, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on design-build projects.

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Location

This position is based out of our office in Houston, Texas or out of our SE or Texas region location that requires at least 25% of travel to Kiewit offices, project sites and industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Providing project support during the proposal/bid phase working with various team members to identify and evaluate innovative and cost-effective design solutions to deep foundation and ground improvement challenges.

  • Producing and overseeing production of engineering reports, geotechnical analysis, technical specifications, constructions drawings and mentoring various experience levels of engineers.

  • Working with the pursuit team to help identify key design and construction risks while developing plans to mitigate these risks.

  • Working on design-build projects as the Geotechnical Engineer-of-Record responsible for developing design recommendations and producing design deliverables for deep foundations and ground improvement.

  • Coordinating with external JV design and construction partners, third party geotechnical consultants, testing firms and contractors.

  • Supporting efforts to capture and spread lessons learned throughout Kiewit Construction Districts.

  • Training and developing staff engineers.

  • Representing Kiewit at geotechnical, deep foundation and ground improvement industry committees, technical conferences and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field, required in addition to practical field construction experience. Master’s degree or higher preferred.

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive, relevant deep foundation and ground improvement geotechnical experience on EPC projects within the U.S.

  • U.S. Gulf Coast Region experience is a plus.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the U.S. required.

  • Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering in addition to deep foundation and ground improvement techniques. Geo-Structural experience is a plus.

  • Deep foundation and ground improvement experience including design and construction oversight of: drilled shafts, augered cast-in-place piles, driven piles, micropiles. rigid inclusions, aggregate piers and stone columns, deep soil mixing, grouting techniques, deep dynamic compaction, and design of load transfer platforms.

  • Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering, including: deep foundation and ground improvement analysis or modeling, strong understanding of geotechnical field and laboratory testing methodology, and conventional load testing.

  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated focus on interdisciplinary design coordination, coordination between Engineering and Construction, experience working in a team setting, and directing/reviewing the work of others.

  • Strong interpersonal skills resulting in exceptional rapport with people. Proven success in initiating, promoting, and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships amongst a team.

  • Ability to travel to project sites and the physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions. #LI-MD1
