The Accountant is responsible for completing various accounting activities within the financial accounting department. This position requires a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) with the ability to apply these concepts in practice. This includes, but is not limited to tasks such as, proposing journal entries, preparing account reconciliations, performing financial analysis, and researching accounting and IRS guidance. The accountant should be action oriented and have problem solving skills which include using rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions and to look beyond the obvious, by not stopping at what appears to be the first answer. They should be able to solve problems effectively and in a timely manner. They should be motivated to continuously improve their skill set which includes but is not limited to being committed to and actively participating in internal and external training sessions and other self-development sessions they can complete on their own. The accountant must be able to deal with ambiguity which includes effectively coping with a complex and rapidly changing environment. The accountant should have excellent interpersonal skills that include excellent written and verbal communication necessary to maintain effective communication with various individuals at different levels within the organization ranging from staff to senior executives. The candidate must be flexible with work hours to meet the demands of a constantly changing environment.
Team Responsibilities will include some of the following;
Prepare complex monthly journal entries
Prepare monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
Capital:
Process Capital Request Worksheets for all PHP activities
Assist project managers with capital expenditures
Prepare and review monthly Capital Budget Reports for publishing on Lawson Dashboard
Fixed Asset/Accumulated Depreciation/Construction-in-Progress Rollforwards
Analyze Depreciation Expense/Accumulated Depreciation
Assist in development of budget for depreciation expenses for each hospital and corporate
Process capital acquisitions
Report monthly capital acquisitions to Financial Reporting Team
Reporting, prepare ad hoc reports as requested
Debt compliance reporting
Financial Statement Preparation
Variance analysis
Grant reporting and related submission
Calculate Bad Debt/Charity reserve
Accounting policy and guidance research and documentation
Captive accounting
GAAP & SAP Audited Financial Statement Preparation and Employee Benefit Plan Audit
Tax
Prepares Form 990 and related schedules
Prepares other miscellaneous tax returns (sales tax, federal excise tax, etc.)
Compiles FIN 48 documentation for annual financial audit
Assist with tax related special projects
1099 Reporting
Financial Accounting
Foundation Accounting
Non-Patient Billing
Accounting for Physician Contracts
Bank Reconciliations
Daily cash balancing and recording
Inventory Reconciliation
Property Management Accounting
Intercompany Reconciliation
Prepaid Accounting
Preparation of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
Treasury
Investment accounting
Debt accounting
Initiate electronic funds transfers
Forecast cash requirements
Insurance
Statutory Filing
Review/Record Reserve Valuations

Minimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor's degree
