Battelle is currently seeking a Software Engineer III . This position is located in Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB), OH .


Battelle’s Advanced Mission Solutions (AMS) Business Line is seeking a Software Engineer III to support comprehensive projects/programs in hardware/software/system/product life cycle development and managing a product portfolio of military hardware and software in support of a live, virtual, and constructive network-based training system.

Clients choose to work with us because of a proven track record for developing innovative and marketable solutions to challenging technical problems. The Software Engineer will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams that we form around each project.


  • Develop and maintain front and back-end solutions supporting a live, virtual, and constructive product portfolio and military hardware.

  • Analyzes and interprets complex data. Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.

  • Define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications. Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions.

  • Support verification and validation planning, execution, and reporting efforts.

  • Support program management in the technical direction of development programs.

  • Collaborate across internal organizations with multi-disciplined engineering teams to develop and execute projects.

  • Interact with leadership to make decisions, manage risk, and influence investment activities that affect the long-term viability of the business.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer or engineering field with at least 6 years of software development professional experience or master’s degree in a computer or engineering field with at least 4 years of professional experience.

  • Proficient in Object Oriented Design, C++, C#, and Java.

  • Experience/familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio, NetBeans, and software versioning tools (i.e. Git & GitLab).

  • Demonstrated experience applying linear algebra and physics to simulations.

  • Experience with modeling & simulation to include experience in aviation simulators (i.e. AFSIM).

  • Strong understanding of TCP/UDP sockets and network communications.

  • Demonstrated experience with JavaScript, Node.js, React, and TypeScript.

  • Experience working with US DoD Program Management Offices.

  • Self-motivated, organized, and a problem solver who demonstrates knowledge of fundamentals but also the big picture.

  • Excellent communication skills to support interaction with cross-functional team members, internal management, and clients.

  • Must be a US Citizen with a minimum interim active US Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET security clearance and the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET – Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS-SCI) DoD Security Clearance.


  • An advanced degree in engineering or science.

  • Experience working with multi-organizational, geographically distributed, and segmented engineering teams.

  • Experience/Familiarity with the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol.

  • Experience with Computer Generated Forces applications.

  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D graphics rendering with OpenGL and DirectX.

  • Experience or exposure to OpenCV.

  • Experience with unmanned platforms, payloads, and infrastructure.

  • Experience with OpenGL HLSL experience, OpenGL HLSL experience, OpenGL HLSL experience, OpenGL HLSL experience.

  • TS-SCI DoD Security Clearance.

  • Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information.

  • Demonstrated experience applying linear algebra and physics to simulations.
