Safety  & Compliance Manager

Cargomatic is seeking a highly experienced Safety & Compliance Manager to join our team. This role will require expertise in motor carrier safety and risk management and a proven track record of driving improvements in safety performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure a consistent safety and compliance culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments. Emphasize a team approach, coordinating with other departments such as Ops, HR, Legal, and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common Safety and Compliance goals.

Develop and Implement Safety Program : design, implement and maintain comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance and proper engagement with rules and regulations of the DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, local regulations, and industry best practices. Establish procedures to prevent accidents, injuries and illnesses, and other safety hazards.

Develop Training Programs: Create and deliver training programs to promote safe and compliant operations for employees and motor carriers, focusing on but not limited to driving practices, emergency response and compliance with regulations.

Ensure all employees receive proper job-related safety protocols and procedures training.

Ensure Regulatory Compliance : Supervise and direct activities of Regional Safety Managers, their designated representatives at each site and the performance of the Safety Committee.  

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of safety and training programs.

  • Oversee DOT driver files & vehicle files electronic management and performs regular audits of the DOT driver files to ensure compliance. Responsible for running and reviewing MVR reports to ensure compliance. Oversees the administration of the Clearinghouse entries, drug and alcohol testing and reporting requirements. Administers the vendor certificate of insurance documents.

  • Oversees daily monitoring of SMS score and FMCSA portal.

  • Oversees all permits and certifications (including renewal) related to safety at each site.

    Risk & Audit Management: 

    Oversees investigations into accidents and injuries, identifies root causes, and implements corrective actions.  

  • Identify trends to be addressed in future training efforts.

  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to federal agencies, insurance companies, and other stakeholders in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

    Foster and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and industry organizations.

  • Analyze safety performance data, including FMCSA safety records, including hours or service, to identify trends and areas for improvement.

  • Oversees process to flag equipment that is improperly checked out or not returned within specified time periods and follow-up until resolution.

  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions to enhance safety performance.

  • Conduct regular site visits and audits to ensure consistent safety compliance from employees, motor carriers and other partners, and facilities standpoints.

    QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as occupational health and safety, engineering, or business administration.

  • Previous managerial experience 5 years.

  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in safety within the transportation or logistics industry.

  • Prefer CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) designation.

  • In-depth knowledge of motor carrier safety regulations, including familiarity with FMCSA safety records, DOT, OSHA and related regulations.

  • Proven track record of improving safety performance and effectively managing risks.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to develop and implement safety and training programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Exceptional leadership and management abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to travel to various terminal locations across the U.S.

  • C-TPAT experience preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience in managing refrigerated equipment are preferred.

  • Experience in implementing KPIs to measure safety performance.

  • Travel Required.
