Dayton Children's Hospital Polysomnographer Technologist- Team Lead ( Sleep Lab ) in Dayton, Ohio

Facility:Dayton Children's - Main CampusDepartment:Pulmonary/Sleep Medicine Diagnostic LabsSchedule:Full timeHours:36Job Details:The Team Leader has expert skills in conducting sleep studies, sleep staging and technical scoring of sleep events according to the American Association of Sleep Medicine standards and departmental policies and protocols. The team leader assists the manager and supervisor in the clinical operations and responsibilities during night sleep study acquisitions. This includes providing training of new staff, along with staff development in sleep study acquisition. Review/triage night sleep studies for assignments and assure quality in study acquisition, accurate staging and scoring and protocols are followed. Assist in troubleshooting of sleep testing equipment, and inventory oversight. He/she scores and completes sleep technical reports, including the assessment of accuracy and quality of sleep recording for all technicians. The Team Leader will provide these duties along with performing sleep tests. Communicates any quality concerns or technical problems to the supervisor. Works collaboratively with day staff communication. Provides on-call duties as needed.

Department Specific Job Details:

Education: • HSD or GED is required • Associate’s degree is preferred Experience: • 2-3 years of experience in sleep is required • 3-4 years of experience in pediatric sleep or respiratory care is preferred • Neuro experience is preferred Certification/Licensure: • RPSGT or SDS is required

  1. Clinical skills/evaluation/management of sleep

disorders

  • Demonstrates knowledge base necessary to care for children with sleep disorders, delivering therapies and testing according to department policy and AASM guidelines.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends/technology in the treatment of sleep disorders.

  • Integrates biopsychosocial findings with patient's history, data from lab results and other test results into an overall assessment of the patient status.

  • Participates in a total quality environment that strives to continuously improve processes.

  • Identifies system problems and seeks solutions to resolve.

  • Reviews and evaluates quality of sleep studies and reports for accuracy and report any issues or concerns to management.

  • Orients and educates new sleep lab personnel as assigned.

  • Demonstrates effective troubleshooting techniques on current and implementation of new diagnostic and clinical equipment.

  • Domains of practice including all elements of the sleep technologist role.

  • Completes annual competencies required for job position, including maintaining BLS certification.

  • Maintains Ohio licenses, if applicable in the role and certifications

  • Complies with BRPT standard of conduct.

  • Maintains inter-rater reliability above 85% for polysomnogram staging and scoring.

  • Utilizes internal/external resources as a referral mechanism to accomplish appropriate and comprehensive care of studies and to patients.

  • Serves as an advocate for projects and promoting sleep hygiene

  • Demonstrates a positive team attitude through mutual support, open communication, trust, and respect with other team members.

  • Demonstrates an awareness of the need to maintain a safe patient-care environment and communicates safety needs to staff appropriately.

  • Documents assessments and interventions thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Attends all staff meetings and mandatory in-services to be a means of communicating expectations and necessary information to staff to be compliant and accountable.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and use of standards for practice and/or recommended practices as set forth by CDC, OSHA, and JCAHO

  • Proactively identifies and seeks correction to potential hazards or medical error causing situations for patients, visitors and employees while caring out daily work responsibilities.

  • Participates in a total quality environment that strives to continuously improve processes.

  • Adheres to sleep center policies related to all quality assurance indicators, including managing database analyzes and reporting.

  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize daily workload according to policy.

  • Conducts workload in a way to be ready to accept new patient care requests as needed.

  • Demonstrates the ability to complete special projects in a timely manner.

  • Adjusts his/her schedule to meet the fluctuating needs of the sleep center.

  • Provides on call responsibilities as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.
