Compensation range: $95,000 to $118,000. Based on our Davis, CA office location. (West Yost uses geographic salary differentials that would apply for candidates in other regions).

IT Systems Administrator
Position:
We are seeking an IT Systems Administrator to join our medium-sized civil engineering firm. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining a robust IT infrastructure, primarily based on Windows systems with some Linux environments.
Expertise in server management and performance optimization will be critical in enabling smooth integration and communication across various software applications. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will align infrastructure strategies with business goals, enhancing operational efficiency and promoting a unified, robust IT environment.
Responsibilities:
System Administration:
Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain servers, storage, and network resources. This includes configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting hardware and software.
User Management: Handle user accounts, permissions, and security policies to ensure proper access and protection of systems.
Performance Tuning: Monitor system performance, conduct regular health checks, and optimize system configurations to ensure high availability and reliability.
Patch Management: Apply updates, patches, and upgrades to operating systems and software to keep systems secure and up to date.
Backup and Recovery: Assist with backup solutions management, as well as data recovered when required.
Security & Compliance: Implement security policies and harden physical & virtual infrastructure against potential threats. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
VDI Systems Performance Management: Monitor VDI performance and troubleshoot issues related to latency, connectivity, and resource utilization.
Automation/Integration:
API Integration: Integrate third-party services and tools into existing infrastructure using APIs to extend functionality and improve efficiency.
Automation Scripting: Write and maintain scripts (using languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell, etc.) to automate routine tasks and system management functions.
Monitoring and Logging: Implement and configure monitoring and logging solutions to track system performance and API usage, ensuring quick identification and resolution of issues.
Collaboration and Support:
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with upper-management, functional teams, and other IT professions to ensure smooth deployment and integration of applications.
Incident Response: Participate in incident response and troubleshooting activities to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, API specifications, and operational procedures.
Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Skills: Proficiency in system administration (Windows/Linux) and scripting languages (Python, Bash, or PowerShell, etc.). Experience with API development (REST, SOAP, JSON) a plus.
Virtualization: Experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi) and Microsoft Hyper-V for managing virtualized environments, including VDI setups and resource optimization.
Storage Array Management: Hands-on experience managing storage arrays, including provisioning, performance tuning, and capacity planning to ensure optimal storage availability and efficiency.
Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud services (AWS/Azure) and their respective APIs a plus.
Security Best Practices: Understanding of security principles and practices, including access controls and encryption.
Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address system, storage, virtualization, and integration issues.
Experience:
Experience Level: 4-7 years of experience in system administration (Windows/Linux), with hands-on expertise in scripting, API integration, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and storage management.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position may require travel to other offices and/or client offices. Applicant must carry a valid driver's license.
