Job Purpose

The Network Cable Technician will participate in the infrastructure of all telecom networks, such as Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and Cable TV (CATV).

The Network Cable Technician will install, troubleshoot, and maintain video and data cables and copper and fiber cabling infrastructure as per the standards of the client's needs.

They will also assist in the designing, creating, and implementing standards and specifications of the cabling project.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to all clients

  • Assembles and arranges material and equipment

  • Explains and verifies service orders, drawings and specifications

  • Installs various low voltage cables and fiber (no electrical required)

  • Mounts telecom equipment while adhering to best industry practices and manufacturer requirements

  • Aids in arranging routers, hubs

  • Installs support structures, including racks, ladders and j-hooks

  • Switches using data provided by all teams within organizations

  • Installs access control systems and surveillance cameras

  • Selects and verifies cable pathways

  • Conducts site surveys for clients

  • Manages and maintains exact inventory of parts, tools, and supplies

  • Installs closet hardware, including connecting blocks, fiber enclosures, racks, backboards, and patch panels

  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with clients

  • Possess strong organizational skills and high attention to detail

  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Displays a positive, friendly and respectful attitude towards clients and co-workers

  • Maintains a safe and clean environment by keeping workstations neat and organized

  • Maintains good attendance

  • Conforms to company dress code

  • Attends meetings on a regular basis

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not require any supervisory duties.

Physical Demands

  • Performs 8 hours of an 8-hour workday in a standing position

  • Frequent standing, pushing, pulling, grasping, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, repetitive motion, visual activity, color recognition and climbing

  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors, close quarters and distance focus capability and judge depth perception

  • Uses hands and appropriate tools and climbs on ladders

  • Occasionally lifts phone receiver to speak to clients and employees

  • Frequently lifts and carries equipment up to 30lbs-50lbs.

  • Frequently drives company vehicle

  • Frequently travels during working hours

Work Schedule

The employee works a full-time schedule, Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm; scheduled on call as needed. Overnight travel/longer days may require overtime work.

This position is Non-Exempt; All overtime work must receive the supervisor's prior authorization.

Must be able to work evening & weekends as required and some overnight travel.

Qualifications

  • Employee must be able to execute customer service skills

  • Experience in designing and installing networks to meet clients' requirements and comply with industry standards

  • Possess solid analytical and problem-solving skills

  • One to three years of recognized success in Cable system and installation of copper and fiber optic cables

  • Valid Driver's License
