WSP USA Environmental Scientist, Remediation in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our national Remediation Program Management (RPM) team.

This opportunity will require you to coordinate assessment and closure of contaminated sites. You will oversee field work related to monitoring, investigating, and remediating contaminated sites impacted by hydrocarbons (diesel, gasoline, crude oil etc.), as well as prepare technical reports. It is expected that you are self-motivated and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.

Why Remediation Program Management?

WSP’s RPM team is one of the most established and exciting teams in Canada. We have been providing contaminated site program management services to the worlds most technically focused companies for over 15 years. We consistently have backlog of 9 to 12 months and provide growth opportunities for our high performing team members. We specialize in health and safety, Phase I/II ESAs, remediation, and risk assessment. Our team takes on the biggest Canadian projects from coast to coast to coast.

Reporting to the Manager of RPM, this role is responsible for coordinating field work and report writing for a portfolio of contaminated sites within the RPM team. The team consists of environmental technicians, project coordinators, project managers, technical experts and qualified professionals in Dartmouth, NS. The projects range in type, size and complexity, and the successful candidate will be able to utilize the team strengths to coordinate a large amount of field work efficiently and effectively.

You Will:

  • Create a safe and positive environment for colleagues.

  • Work closely with the project managers to:

  • Prepare health and safety plans and emergency response plans.

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates.

  • Schedule field staff and subcontractors.

  • Compile data for reports.

  • Write reports including preparing conclusions and recommendations.

  • Conduct occasional field work including soil, groundwater, surface water and vapour investigations, monitoring programs and overseeing site remediation.

  • Train junior staff in environmental practices including Phase I and II ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation etc.

  • Train staff on site specific health and safety.

  • Collaborate across the national RPM team and WSP.

What You’ll Bring to WSP:

  • A university degree or above in environmental science, engineering, or related field.

  • Proven experience in contaminated site assessment.

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in an engineering consulting environment.

  • Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling.

  • An analytical mind; someone who is able to make recommendations on the next steps for client sites.

  • P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation is preferred.

  • Strong business acumen and financial management experience, developing, tracking and forecasting on project budgets.

  • Willingness to grow your career within the RPM team.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams and with multiple priorities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
