Trinity Health Registered Nurse - Progressive Care - Full Time - Days in Darby, Pennsylvania

Description:

The Progressive Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of patient care. The professional nurse assumes the responsibility and accountability for the delegation of patient care to other members of the healthcare team.

Schedule:

7:00am to 7:00pm, 72 hours per biweekly pay, every other weekend rotation.

Progressive Care Unit Nursing Skills

• Interprets cardiac rhythms and responds appropriately

• Communicates with members of the health care team (i.e. Monitor tech, physician) regarding patient’s cardiac rhythm/status

• Adheres to the “telemetry policy” when sending patients off the unit

• Manages care of the patient with Cardiac Pacing therapy (permanent, post-op care)

• Managers care of post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients

• Wound prevention and care

  • Pressure ulcer

  • Arterial and Venous stasis ulcer

  • Surgical wounds

• Initiates IV therapy as per policy/procedure, taking into consideration vein condition, patient age, skin condition, patient positioning, and cognition

• Monitors and maintains venous access:

  • Vesicants

  • Non-vesicants

  • Documentation

• Demonstrates care and maintenance of central venous access devices

• Dialysis Therapy responsibilities pre and post treatment PD

• POCT: Blood glucose Monitoring & Quality Control

• Provides respiratory support (Pulse ox, suctioning, wall and portable oxygen therapy)

• Maintains drainage tubes

• Problem focused physical assessment

• Cardiac monitors:

  • Customizes/edits/reviews patient alarms/information

  • Trouble shoots poor waveforms and equipment problems

  • Assigns transmitters when necessary

  • Notifies supervisor/biomedical of equipment/ failure/problem

• Safe Handling of the Post Chemo patient

• Phlebotomy skills:

  • Blood culture, T&C specimens, etc.

  • Central venous access device

  • Labeling of specimens

Performance Measures

• Demonstrates appropriate skill set for area of practice

• Completes required annual education

• 100% compliance with Nurse verification of rhythm strip interpretation each shift and with change in patient condition

• Assures all patients remain on monitors

Progressive Care Unit Equipment Use

• Chest tube set-up and maintenance

• Wound Care Carts

• Oxygen and suction shut off valves

• Negative pressure room location and monitoring

• Latex allergy cart

• Computer skills

• Orders.

• Diagnostic reports

• Infusion pumps (PCA, IV Pump)

• Antithrombolytic devices

• Feeding pumps

• Overlay mattresses/specialty beds/low beds/floor mates

• Transport/ambulation assist devices (walker, cane, wheelchair)

• Scales

• Hypo/hyperthermia devices

• Pulse Oximetry

• Cold therapy (cryocuff, cold packs)

• Cyracom Phones (Interpreter Service)

• Bladder Scanner

• CPM Machine

• Pneumatic tube

• Cardiac monitors

• Bedside and transport

Performance Measures

• Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment according to specific patient protocol and policy

Required Progressive Care Rn Education/Experience • 1 year critical care or progressive care nursing experience preferred

or

• 2-3 years medical/surgical nursing experience

• Completion of approved critical care course

• Completion of approved dysrhythmia course

• ACLS
