Position Overview

Shaw Industries is hiring a Manager of Construction. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Manager of Construction manages (7) salaried reports consisting of project managers, engineers and a CAD designer. The manager leads the team to develop and execute capital and expense projects across the organization, including manufacturing, distribution and corporate administrative areas. Responsibilities of the team include maintaining the integrity of all building assets in addition to managing construction and renovations ranging from small-scale upgrades to complex, multi-million-dollar projects. The position also leads the group in managing the company’s roofing, paving and structural programs, for all domestic and international locations. These programs consist of site assessments, establishing priorities, annual budgeting and project execution. Civil engineering and infrastructure support consists of site/earthwork, storm water and erosion control, sanitary sewer, fire protection and plumbing systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Corporate roofing, paving and structural oversight: Exhibit sound business acumen to identify needs, develop and implement strategy to assure optimum results are achieved while minimizing cost for the company. Prioritize and project a 3-year plan to address the greatest needs with the intent of regulating spend each year.

  • Building construction and renovation: Work with internal business partners to understand needs and goals, develop plans, budgets and manage projects to assure they are completed safely, on time, and within budget while ensuring minimal disruption to the operations.

  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and productivity. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the organization. Utilize sound performance management techniques, establish goals and challenge direct reports to be as efficient and effective as possible.

  • Fully utilize PX to set and measure goals for individuals, aligning with company objectives, and coach to promote further growth and development of the construction team.

  • Budget Management: Ensures the team solicits and documents plant/customer requirements and input.

  • Identify cost-saving, value engineering opportunities, obtain competitive bids for services and supplies, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships to optimize spending. Work with Global Sourcing to negotiate, set expectations, and assemble specifications and bid evaluations for capital and expense projects.

  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards. Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Coordinate with regulatory agencies and conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance. Assure team compliance with all CE project administration guidelines and procedures.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in commercial or industrial building construction required

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management is preferred

  • Previous experience leading a salaried team in a corporate environment is required

  • Must possess fundamental knowledge of civil, structural, architectural, and building infrastructure disciplines

  • Sound understanding of code compliance including IBC, Life Safety, ADA, NFPA, OSHA and Factory Mutual engineering requirements

  • Familiarity with WELL Equity and LEED building standards

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and leadership skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Domestic and international travel will be required at times

  • Full-time, in office work schedule is required
