Position Overview

The Director of Sustainability Communications will fulfill a communications and content development position dedicated to connecting company-wide initiatives to internal teams, supplying messaging, assets, and relevant tools that are audience-appropriate. The position would work with corporate communications and corporate sustainability on greater sustainability strategy and serve as a conduit between these teams and brand marketing, both residential and commercial. The Director of Sustainability Communications would also generate external, customer-facing messaging and materials for use by the Sustainability Leaders to present Shaw’s sustainability efforts to customers. This role would collect and prepare market insights for the sustainability team to share broadly with internal stakeholders and would have a presence at relevant events for content capture. This leader will achieve success through leveraging high communications acumen balanced with demonstrating strategic influence with key internal business partners. This role will build and expand strategic relationships and provide content that allows Shaw to differentiate in the marketplace and expand our sustainability reputation.

Responsibilities:

  • Reinforce and strengthen messaging by working with residential & commercial marketing teams to develop tools and messaging which align with corporate sustainability strategy

  • Develop CEUs, training modules, presentation decks, position papers, and sustainability assets needed to communicate Shaw’s sustainability strategy

  • Serve as integral resource for brand marketing teams to connect with corporate sustainability

  • Lead corporate sustainability’s engagement with the Made Smarter. Live Better residential strategy. Establish and articulate the overall Made Smarter. Live Better. Platform content with marketing to ensure value for each business channel (specialty, retail, builder markets, multifamily, and home centers)

  • Generate monthly Sustainability Market Insights reports to capture competitive activities, sustainability trends, and tactical activities executed by Shaw as a means to inform internal stakeholders consistently and deliver value

  • Support the development of the annual sustainability report

  • Support the development of a sustainability Materiality Assessment

  • Design and develop a central content repository of sustainability assets and ensure consistency with the overall corporate sustainability strategy.

  • Use ongoing and relevant industry research and data to develop effective storytelling that resonates with a broad array of audiences

  • Proofread, edit, and revise sustainability content generated by various stakeholders

  • Maintain intentional communication channels with relevant internal partners. Provide feedback, ensure alignment with business objectives, and drive internal action and accountability. Sustainability leadership team in executing sustainability strategy.

  • Provide Sustainability Leaders with market insights and market intelligence related to sustainability trends

  • Advance Shaw’s sustainability strategy goals through white papers and other vehicles to simplify technical topics

  • Dotted line responsibility and alignment with Corporate Communications to ensure connectivity to other enterprise efforts

    Requirements:

  • 4-year degree

  • 10+ years experience of communications and/or marketing experience with a concentration in sustainability

  • 3+ years experience working with cross-functional teams

  • Ability to travel domestically (15%)

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to manage ambiguity effectively

  • Ability to understand major enterprise and business issues and challenges

  • Ability to lead and influence a team of cross-divisional internal leaders

  • Ability to work with and influence industry peers and leaders
