Job Description :

Job Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Registered Dietitian position is to complete patient screening, assessment, reassessment, care plan development, and nutrition education to patients and/or family members. The Registered Dietitian regularly communicates with physicians and other disciplines to ensure patients receive quality nutrition care. Supports the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of Methodist Health System.

Your Job Requirements:

1-2 years of NICU and/or acute patient care experience preferred.

Undergraduate degree meeting academic requirements, successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program and eligible to take the American Dietetic Registration Exam; or undergraduate degree from an accredited Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Dietetics with specialty in Clinical Nutrition and eligible to take the American Dietetics Registration Exam; or

Master’s Degree meeting academic requirements and successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program, with six months experience in Clinical Nutrition and eligible to take the American Dietetic Registration Exam.

Able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, family members and other facility staff

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to pediatric through geriatric patients

Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental guidelines.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  1. Appropriately assesses patients at nutritional risk via screening policy.

  2. Demonstrates ability to assess and reassess patients needs appropriately and timely according to policy.

  3. Respond to requests and consults timely according to policy.

  4. Documents nutrition intervention in detailed, accurate, and appropriate manner.

  5. Recommends additional nutrition therapy as needed.

  6. Develops individualized plan of care.

  7. Works collaboratively with other health care disciplines in developing interdisciplinary plan of care and discharge planning.

  8. Develops education plan based on needs assessment.

  9. Assesses patient and family learning needs, identifies barriers to learning, mode of learning.

  10. Effectively explains diet requirements, restrictions, and food/drug interactions.

  11. Demonstrates respect for patient and family spiritual, cultural, and privacy needs.

  12. Displays knowledge of disease states and keeps abreast of developments in the field of nutrition in order to provide the highest quality of care.

  13. Participates in the monitoring and reporting of quality indicators for clinical nutrition and food service.

  14. Assists as needed in food production, policy development and special projects.

  15. Completes other duties as assigned.

Licenses and/or Certifications (Required):

Registration with the American Dietetic Association with continuing education hours that maintain registration status; License with the Texas Board of Examiners of Dietitians and education hours that maintain licensure status.
