Responsible for developing and leading a team whose collective skills comprise business knowledge, data analysis, and story-telling capabilities. Responsible for synthesizing those skills across the team to create a data-driven voice to strategic topics, resulting in thought-pieces that glean new insights into American’s large and complex line maintenance footprint and the strategic levers that underpin that network.

What you'll do

  • Assimilates and maintains a team of analysts with complementary skill-sets across the following competencies: airline knowledge (operations and commercial), advanced analytics, business intelligence and visualization, story-telling

  • Creates blueprints for, and manages the development of, consultant-like expertise presentation of findings, telling technical stories to non-technical and/or executive audiences

  • Takes high-level problem statements and abstract hypotheses and sets project direction for the key elements: the body of analysis, extraction of insights, and articulation of critical findings and takeaways that ultimately answer questions and improve conviction

  • Picking up on signals and feedback from operational constituents, ‘connect the dots’ into a cohesive, logical and compelling presentations to allow the airline to contemplate newfound ways of planning the airline, all with the underlying goal of reducing aircraft out of service frequency and/or duration

  • Guides the development and application of new ways of approaching data analysis in various Maintenance Capacity Planning and Utilization contexts

  • Manages analytical efforts to support ad-hoc initiatives tied to TechOps’ strategic objectives

  • Builds close working relationships across the various TechOps and Airline Planning functions with whom the position will collaborate

  • Demonstrate the leadership attributes with a bias toward feedback and accountability. Develop those within the leader’s span of care to grow into taking the next step of their careers.

All you'll need for success

  • Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and/or equivalent experience/training

  • 5 years job related experience

  • Successful track record in an analytical environment

  • Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 5 years’ experience in airline planning, operations, analysis or professional services (advisory/management consulting)

  • Knowledge of American Airlines’ operational and/or network planning data sets

  • Experience with Mosaic data warehouse and tools including Tableau, SQL

  • Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Demonstrated ability to develop fact-based, balanced narratives around strategic topics affecting multiple groups, sometimes with different functional priorities

  • Tendency to challenge the status quo; “Why?” is a large component of your vocabulary

  • Conviction to probe unpopular or otherwise anecdotal topics that may not seem broken on the surface

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, etc.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel

  • Intellectual curiosity and self-motivation to understand root causes of operational happenings within the business unit

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills (development and delivery) and executive presence

  • Reliable and dependable; comfortable accepting ownership, responsibility, and accountability of functional obligations without constant supervision and follow-up

  • Capacity to balance multiple priorities simultaneously while adhering to deadlines

  • Big picture thinker with a strong attention to detail: appreciation for data and its nuances, and its importance to supporting a narrative, with the corresponding ability to not get lost in it and lose sight of the big picture objective

  • Proven capability to develop strong relationships and work effectively across groups

  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and distribute amongst resources most effectively to produce results
