This job is within the American Airlines Credit Union. The role is responsible for leading the Account Fraud team within the Loss Mitigation department, which is dedicated to investigating and preventing various types of fraud, including checks, ACH, wires, applications and online account takeovers. This individual will play a key role in collaboration with others to develop and execute strategies for fraud education, prevention and response.

What you'll do

  • Lead, mentor and support a team focused on investigating fraud across multiple payment methods, employing a risk-based approach to resolve cases effectively while maintaining high member satisfaction

  • Create standards for the team, reports, etc. to ensure alignment between operational and analytical fraud prevention efforts

  • Be a working manager, with responsibility for conducting many fraud case investigations

  • Drive change by developing and refining associated internal policies and procedures to create synergies, avoid duplication, and improve overall fraud prevention strategies

  • Assess and identify ongoing training needs for the Account Fraud team, other AACU team members and Credit Union members to help ensure a well-informed and proactive approach to fraud prevention

  • Work with other business units to validate data integrated into fraud risk data, reports, etc.

  • Prepare ad hoc reports and presentations to support initiatives, projects, meetings, procedural changes, etc.

  • Partner with management and business unit employees throughout the Credit Union to leverage information and data for decision making

  • Serve as a key leader on Loss Mitigation projects in coordination with other teams within the Credit Union

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the security and confidentiality of all account and related information which is part of their work and for ensuring that his / her work is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Prior successful supervisory or leadership experience

  • Fraud investigation experience

  • Familiarity with financial industry regulations relevant to the role

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation

  • Experience participating in fraud investigations and working knowledge of applicable regulations

  • Previous banking or credit union experience, particularly in risk analysis and fraud prevention

  • Proficiency in systems such as Episys and Verafin

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) gained through either work experience with the software or education and hands-on use of the software

  • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations governing credit unions

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all organizational levels

  • Ability to guide and develop team members and foster a positive work environment

  • Outstanding member service skills and commitment to maintaining a positive member experience

  • Skilled at data analysis and translating information into beneficial insights for the organization

  • Ability to apply strategic thinking skills and a holistic perspective to create optimal business solutions

  • Ability to demonstrate above-average organizational skills and adapt to shifting priorities

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and participate collaboratively within a team

  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate

  • Sound decision-making skills and strong attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain satisfactory performance and attendance

  • Ability to pass applicable American Airlines and Credit Union pre-hire compliance checks
